Protocol for Assassins in the Tavern

Lemuel~~~ Alright, before we get started, jasma won't be here to take notes tonight...I seem to have misplaced the key to her kennel...

~thinking a certain Free Woman may have something to do with that~

...so, I need a girl to take the notes for this evenings forum...any volunteers?

topaz{ALVC}~~~ aye Master Lemuel, topaz can scribe....*smiling brightly*

Lemuel~~~ ~nodding to topaz~

My thanks 'paz.

topaz{ALVC}~~~ *gets the rence paper ready and writing stick poised....eyes twinkling, looking to Master Lemuel to begin*

Lemuel~~~ O.K. - Let's get this show on the road! Forum rules now apply. Please keep greetings and off topic chat to whispers, slaves do not need beg permission to enter or leave during the forum, etc., etc.

Please PM Me with any topics you would like to discuss.

Lemuel~~~ Alright, first topic:

"An unknown Assassin has been in a couple of times over the last couple of days. What is the protocol in being in the Tavern with a strange Assassin? Is there etiquette in greeting and staring and so forth?"

topaz{ALVC}~~~ *shivers slightly, remembering the Assassin's visits*

Emerald Forest~~~ *greet Him as normal and if He is not wearing the mark no need to worry about Him*

vika{Marius}~~~ ~vika would be pleasing as He is a Free...she would serve with all that she has......and would greet Him as Master.~

mischief{WH}~~~ m's thinks you have a problem...of a slave, that being that we are required to please ALL FREE...

Lemuel~~~ According to the information available on Our Home Page, any Assassin wishing to visit is welcome to do so, but if He has a target, his kill will be subject to the battle rules and a ruling by the Council.

Emerald Forest~~~ *assassins are no more agressive then a Warrior*

Mandi~~~ Would all Assassins on an "assignment" bear a mark that would be visible in an online posting, Emerald Forest?

mischief{WH}~~~ Assassin's do not kill slaves anyway, there should be nothing for a slave to worry about...

topaz{ALVC}~~~ *nods in agreement with her sisters, thinking a girl must greet, and be pleasing at all times to All Free*

Emerald Forest~~~ *if They are on a mission then yes They would have to post it in the open so other's will know, since We can't see anyone in here LOL*

Lemuel~~~ ~nodding to Mandi~

At the very least the Assassin should *show* that They wear the black dagger if They are seeking their mark.

Lemuel~~~ From the Home Page:

"Assassins who leap into the room, thrust knives into their prey and immediately leave will simply be laughed out of the tavern. Their "kill" will not be recognized. If an Assassin wishes to kill someone in Gorean Shores, they must abide by the Battle Rules."

topaz{ALVC}~~~ both times topaz saw the Assassin, He did post clearly He was searching for One...and left both times saying that One was not here at the time

Lemuel~~~ So, unless You are a Warrior, You can just run. ~S~

Mandi~~~ So the spar rules apply to an Assassin?

Emerald Forest~~~ *not spar rules Mandi, fight to the death rules S*

Lemuel~~~ ~nodding~ Yes Mandi, they do. And if the Assassin doesn't follow the spar rules the kill won't be ruled valid by the Council.

Lemuel~~~ ~looks to E.K.~

The rules are the same, just the outcome that is different. ~S~

topaz{ALVC}~~~ but if topaz may...an Assassin usually kills by stealth no?...*looking slightly confused*...They do not go to One and say "I am here to kill You...stand ready"..do They?

Emerald Forest~~~ *usually they do topaz but in a tavern there are rules that They must follow*

va`lain{A}~~~ va is sure of One had a mark.....

nbsp; nbsp;1. He would have to identify that He is marked

nbsp; nbsp;2. since adapation to online would have to be in effect, He would have to say who is marked, give Him a chance to defend Himself.....that is one thing about online adapation

Lemuel~~~ ~smiles at the lil' slave~

No 'paz, that isn't how they'd do it in the books, but they did stalk openly. One wouldn't know they were the target until it was too late.

topaz{ALVC}~~~ *nods understanding*

topaz thanks You Master Forest...

*smiling up at the Handsome One..then turns back to her scribing*

topaz{ALVC}~~~ *giggles*...aye Master Lemuel...too late huh!!

Lemuel~~~ ~nodding to va'lain~

Aye girl, exactly. There are certain compromises that must be made to make online Gor more realistic. In real life the mark would have an opportunity to notice the Assassin and take appropriate action, so online we make rules to simulate that.

va`lain{A}~~~ ~smiles~ as she listens to Master Lemuel's words~

Logan~~~ Striding to My furs, listening to the talk of the assassin

Gornt~~~ The Assassin came back?

topaz{ALVC}~~~ Aye Master Gornt, the Assassin returned this afternoon.

Gornt~~~ kill anyone?

lissa{GS}~~~ *eyes wide hearing talk of an assassin*

topaz{ALVC}~~~ *whispers to Master Gornt*

Nay, He posted, His search, and that the One He sought was still not here

Gornt~~~ oh

Gornt~~~ hmmm wonder Who HE could be looking for?

I have a candidate

lissa{GS}~~~ *wonders who is the One the assassin searches for*

Lemuel~~~ ~looking to topaz~

Did the Assassin say Who His target was?

Gornt~~~ HE wouldn't say yesterday

topaz{ALVC}~~~ Nay Master Lemuel, both times topaz saw the Dark Assassin, He did not name Anyone

Lemuel~~~ ~shrugs~ I guess it makes sense not to warn One's mark prematurely ~S~

Gornt~~ that is what He said

Gornt~~~ ~chuckling~

Logan~~~ Aye, those were His words

Lemuel~~~ ~looking about~

Anyone have anything further to add on the Assassins topic? Is there another topic that anyone would like to discuss?

New Dates for Festival

Lemuel~~~ No other topics???

O.K. - an announcement about the festival then. It looks like we'll be pushing the dates back to Dec 14, 15, & 16 since jasma has been unable to get online and I have been under the weather lately and not much has gotten done.

Don't everyone talk at once

Lemuel~~~ Well, if there are no other topics, I could regale everyone with tales about various methods for ventilating underground chambers...~EG~

Gornt~~~ ~looks to the Advisor~

huh?

Lemuel~~~ ~chuckling~

Or I suppose we could do some trivia...

topaz{ALVC}~~~ *giggling, hearing Master Lemuel*

Mandi~~~ **chuckling @ the Builder** Far more exciting fare than I could regale Any with.

shirin{SholGar}~~~ ~*~her lil head pops up with interest towards Master Lemuel, curious to learn~*~

Gornt~~~ I could tell everyone how to various sailor's knots

Lemuel~~~ ~S~ So, what will it be? Another topic, tales of air circulation, or trivia?

shirin{SholGar}~~~ ~*~at the mentionof trivia she sticks her finger down her throat and giggles~*~

Lemuel~~~ ~grins at shirin~ Oh, the trivia could be "Stump the Advisor"...

Mandi~~~ That would be impossible Lemuel

}

shirin{SholGar}~~~ ~giggles~ she did good once Master, twice would be asking for far too much, she only a mere slave wenchie, hehehehe

whatever Master wishes, shirin's flexable, just being silly tonight ~titls her head playfully, chestnut curls bouncing about her shouders~

Lemuel~~~ ~chuckles at Mandi~

Not true! The last time we played jasma and another girl stumped me three times! ~G~

Mandi~~~ Thus One learned the three factoids that One did not know and is thus unbeatable.

Lemuel~~~ ~thwacking My forehead~

Ah yes, and the wnech in question was you, wasn't it shirin?

Gornt~~~ ~chuckling at Mandi~

Gornt~~~ I have read fifteen of the books, and I couldn't do doodly in trivia

shirin{SholGar}~~~ ~*~wiggles her lil fingers in the air over her head to be seen as the other Master stumper, grinnin~*~

Lemuel~~~ ~laughs at Mandi's words~

What Makes a Good Online Slave

Lemuel~~~ O.K. - here's a topic then:

"What makes a good online slave?"

Gornt~~~ obedience and style

shirin{SholGar}~~~ ooooo, so many things, Master...maybe, uumm, imagination and tight lips, yup need them ~nods~

Mandi~~~ **looking to shirin** I suppose there are some times when confidentiality is a must, girl.

Gornt~~~ aye

slaves know everything, if there is a ablabber mouth slave could create havoc

Logan~~~ Were I custom building an on line slave, I would start with intelligence, and imagination

Lemuel~~~ ~grins at shirin~

Aye, knowing when to keep their lips closed is a good trait for a slave to have. ~chuckles~

Obedience, imagination, style, respect/deference...what else?

topaz{ALVC}~~~ *grins at Master Gornt, then to Mistress Mandi...stays quiet*

lissa{GS}~~~ *slapping her hand over her mouth and giggling*

topaz{ALVC}~~~ *smiles at Master Logan*

shirin{Sholgar}~~~ yes this is true Mistress, but shirin was more thinking on the 'bite one's tongue' line, knowing when to keep quiet and not get oneself killed, hehehehehehe

Lemuel~~~ ~grins~ Aye intelligence is a good thing for a slave to have.

How about a sense of humor?

Gornt~~~ Intelligence is most important

Logan~~~ Knowing full well that a stupid slut, does not last long on Gor

Gornt~~~ and passion, one has to make herself believable as having a fire in her belly to be pleasing

Mandi~~~ I suppose the same online skills Anyone else would need would apply, as well. Good keyboarding at a reasonable speed helps.

shirin{SholGar}~~~ oh yes, we need to be silly at times too, a boring and stuck up slave is no fun to play with ~grins~

lissa{GS}~~~ *rubbing at her golden curls.....knowing they sometimes get the best of her*

Logan~~~ and the wisdom to hide that intelligence, but maintain the spark

Gornt~~~ aye imagination is good Logan, one has to be able to let her mind roam

unless seh has some bizzarre RT excperience to draw on

Lemuel~~~ ~grins and winks at shirin~

Aye, I wholeheartedly agree. A funny, playful slave is much more interesting, to Me at least. ~S~

Mandi~~~ Lem, Yours is a great one.

Logan~~~ smiling, she must truly have fire in her belly, that is something that can not be pretended for any period of time

shirin{SholGar}~~~ yes that too Mistress Mandi, oh how shirin used to fret over her slow typing skills, still not the fastest or the best, but she has come to term with her typing skills, this is who she is ~shrugs~

shirin thinks a slave needs to have *desire* first and formost, for without it, she will not even try to teach herself...an online slave must teach herself nearly all

Lemuel~~~ ~smiles at Mandi~

I agree, but then I'm biased. ~G~

Gornt~~~ keybroading? what is that?

topaz{ALVC}~~~ *chuckles, listening*

all topaz knows is all she does, comes from deep within, from her slave heart if You will....and the ability to feel, think, speak, imagine these things, has made her learn so very much, so very quickly.....she does not try to be one she isn't...she has alot of fun as well...

*grinning, looking to Lady Mandi, thinking of a girls favorite toy*

Mandi~~~ shirin, I had always that a girl was pretty good on the keyboard, certainly had not noticed any different.

Lemuel~~~ ~nodding at shirin's words~

Aye, that brings to mind another desireable trait, a desire to learn and grow in her slavery.

lissa{GS}~~~ *listening quietly and making lil notes in her mind*

shirin{SholGar}~~~ ~*~winks to Mistress~*~ well she has been at it for two yrs now, thinks have improved, hehehe

Gornt~~~ inara taught herself, ~chuckling~ I was sure no help

Lemuel~~~ ~chuckling~ Personally, I don't think a girl has to be an ace typist, but it doesn't hurt to be able to articulate one's thoughts quickly instead of having to hunt and peck.

~now where was that key?~

Gornt~~~ ~nodding in agreement with Mandi~

thinking paz does an excellent job

shirin{SholGar}~~~ shirin remembers her first days, she came in here and once she found the Homepage, she couldn't put it down till she read the entire thing (took several days too), printed many pages out and made a notebook...then continued to look for new sites about gor

Mandi~~~ I see a lot of imagination and work in the slaves' posts, nearly of a quality in some instances of the better fan-generated literature on some other sites devoted to other books and stories. And much of it is done on the fly.

There is a warmth that comes across online with many of the girls.

topaz{ALVC}~~~ *nods agreement with shirin*

aye, topaz also read and read, went to site after site...she taught herself all she has learned, and there were times she fell asleep at the keyboard...*laughs*

shirin{SholGar}~~~ sincerity and truthfulness are also musts for a slave

Lemuel~~~ ~nodding agreement with Mandi's words~

Yes, I'm continuously impressed by the talent all the kajirae show, typing serves, dances and such on the fly and making them so vivid and interesting.

lissa{GS}~~~ there is much to learn.....*she says softly*

shirin{SholGar}~~~ ~*~smiles to topaz and nods,knowing~*~

Mandi~~~ I, for One, have been very proud of topaz' transition to Gor from the other realm. she still has interest in growth as well.

topaz{ALVC}~~~ *blows lissa a kiss*

aye sweet sis....and always topaz is still learning, and believes when the time comes that she stops learning, 'twill be a sad day indeed!!...*grins*

topaz{ALVC}~~~ *chuckles, seeing once again Mistress Mandi and topaz's crossed posts*

Lemuel~~~ ~nodding~ And there *IS* always more to learn. Even those that seem to know everything can learn new things. ~S~

shirin{SholGar}~~~ and we will never know it all, lissa, a slave continues to learn every day of her life

those are things we try to teach the girls of GS, description is very important

lissa{GS}~~~ this girl has tried very hard and is proud to call GS home.....*smiling timidly*

shirin{SholGar}~~~ you have done very well from what shirin has seen lissa, you have come a long way sis

Lemuel~~~ ~S~ Anything more on the topic of "What makes a good online slave?"?

lissa{GS}~~~ *smiles at her sis shirin and gives her a big ole hug*

shirin{SholGar}~~~ ~*~squeezes lissa tight~*~

Gornt~~~ paz the only way one stops learning is when one enters the City of dust

topaz{ALVC}~~~ topaz toally agrees with You Master Gornt!!!

Builder's secrets of keeping air breathable

Lemuel~~~ ~smiles at the quiet~

Time for learning Builder's secrets of keeping air breathable in underground levels?

topaz{ALVC}~~~ aye Master Lemuel....topaz would really love to learn some of that....*eyes dancing, peeks up from her scribing*

Gornt~~~ I don't think there is enough time left for that Lemuel

Lemuel~~~ ~grins at topaz and winks at Gornt~

I'll keep it short, I promise. ~G~

Gornt~~~ alright

topaz{ALVC}~~~ *leans forward a bit, listening intently, chuckles softly*

Lemuel~~~ ~chuckling~

O.K. - how do you move air when you can't use an electric motor with a fan attached?

There's lots of ways, one is fire. As the fire burns, the hot air rises and creates a partial vacuum. Air enters through vents at ground level to balance the pressure and thus freshens the air. ~S~

Mandi~~~ How is that partial vaccuum created within the limitations of the PK's Lem?

Gornt~~~ hmmmmmm

farts work

topaz{ALVC}~~~ do the vents also allow any smoke form the fires to escape?

Lemuel~~~ ~S~ Another method useful for taller buildings in windy areas is to position circulation vents at the very top of the building. As the wind blows over the vents it is like blowing into a straw (or sucking on a straw for the other side). The difference in pressure causes the air to circulate in the lower levels.

Gornt~~~ same reason the water in the toilet moves when it is windy because of the air passing over the soil pipe

Lemuel~~~ ~smiles at Mandi~ Even a small difference in pressure is useful. Perhaps vacuum isn't the best word since it makes people think of a complete lack of air.

Gornt~~~ a draft, right Lem?

Lemuel~~~ ~nodding to topaz~ Aye, chimneys placed over the fire allow the spent air and smoke to exit the building. Preferably the chimney will reach the uppermost levels of the building to take advantage of the winds.

~nodding to Gornt~ Yes, exactly.

Mandi~~~ Why is the ventilation issue important besides Aesthetics, Lem?

Lemuel~~~ ~nods, smiling~ See, nothing too outrageous, Gornt.

topaz{ALVC}~~~ air is necessary for breathing...stagnant air can also make People sicken, so adequate ventilation would be a must no?

Gornt~~~ ~smiling at the Builder~

I knew that was just having One on

Lemuel~~~ ~smiles at Mandi~ It's mostly an issue for the lowest levels of a builder, say three or more levels under ground, because the oxygen can be used up and cause illness in prisoners and slaves kept in the depths.

Mandi~~~ What is the expense factor, Builder?

Lemuel~~~ The two methods I've mentioned are very inexpensive if the ventilation channels are incorporated at the time of construction. These "passive" ventilation methods are much less expensive than using manual labor to power bellows pumps.

Gornt~~~ slaves are cheap

Lemuel~~~ For instance, heat and light are needed in lower levels anyway, so why not use the flames to help condition the air as well?

Mandi~~~ and retrofitting an existing structure is costly?

Lemuel~~~ ~nodding~ Aye Gornt, but slaves must be fed and watered and cannot work around the clock without rest, so you'd need gangs of slaves, which means more food, etc.

Gornt~~~ slave gruel is cheap as well

remember Lem this is Gor there are a lot more of them than You think

Lemuel~~~ ~nodding to Mandi~ Aye, it could be, but I can't imagine a Builder not providing a method of adequate ventilation in the first place. Where it becomes a problem is when new levels are dug beneath an existing structure or in tenemants where the holder tries to cram as many sleeping quarters into a building as He can.

Lemuel~~~ ~shrugs~ There's not that many male slaves, Gornt, and female slaves have better uses than working bellows all day long. ~G~

Gornt~~~ I think the lower levels are called Dungeons and they don't care if they are properly ventillated

topaz{ALVC}~~~ *chuckles at Master Gornt, remembering Him commenting about the lack of slaves in order to be served...turns back to listen to Master Lemuel*

Gornt~~~ ~looking at the girl and saying~

there are slaves and there are slaves girl

topaz{ALVC}~~~ Aye Master Gornt, of course...*eyes bright*

Lemuel~~~ ~S~ Aye, they don't care if the air is the best quality, but it still needs to be breathable. Besides, other lifestock can be used to power machinery more efficiently than human liverstock can.

Lemuel~~~ ~looking to the water clock~

Well, that finished up the forum nicely. ~G~ If there is nothing else, I'll call it to a close.

Mandi~~~ Striking shoulder in approval. Well said, Builder.

topaz{ALVC}~~~ topaz thanks You Master Lemuel for an interesting Forum...

*smiles as she lays down the writing stick*
