It is a hard thing, Jarl Thorrn. There are many women who for whatever reason must support themselves, and maybe even a family, not having a man to do it for them. So the efforts to have women achieve equality in the workplace are not unreasonable. I am of the generation tht was raised to beleive they would eventually marry and have a family, and be supported by a husband, and they need only have enough education and training to support themselves until that time.
Then I, like many others, ended up losing tht husband, in one way or another, and needing to make enougbh to support myself and my family, without the incomed to do so. And Men, and the workplace, no longer felt they need pay sufficient wages for a man to support his family, because the wife could always work. Soon, though, it took all both spouses could make to survive, leaving a family wheren there was onlly onne parent, often the woman though sometimes the man, without adequate means to do so. So it is now a no-win situation either way. A man rarely is able to take care of his family and leave the woman to be a woman, and when the woman must take over some of the responsibilities, she has to have the "power" to execute those responsibilities. This makes it difficult for the man to "dominate" the family.

It is not just the military, Jasmina. The civilian world has lost the respect it used to have for those who have served their country. Many firms used to give veterans preference, and no longer do. Many companies and organizations used to support programs to benefit veterans, and no longer do so. The organization I work for offers transportation to veterans who are disabled to the veteran's hospitals in the area, at no charge. But it is getting harder and harder to interest people and companies in donating the funds necessary to pay for the vehicles, maintenance, insurance and gasoline necessary, or to volunteer as drivers forn this program.

Another example of the difficulties with providing services to Veterans. I work for the Red Cross. Our local chapter was chartered in 1917, at the heighth of WWI. Someone, in a burst of patriotic fervor, granted the chapter free use of office space in the County Courthouse for 100 years, because the Red Cross helped the servicemen. A few years back, the courthouse was becoming crowded, and the County acquired a second building, to use as an Annex, and housed some of the offices and organizations formerly housed in the Courtn House there. Again, the original grant of free office space was honored. Recently though, one of the new County Commissioners was touring the Annex, along with other County prooperties. He immediately pinned down our Executive Director and stated He had been looking over the books and noticed we hadn't paid any rent for our offices, and wanted to know why. You could see he was counting up in his head all the back rent He was planning to demand from us! Our ExecutiveDirector explained the situation, and actually had to go over to the Court House Basement and dig through boxes and boxes of the back records and produce the minutes of the County Council meeting in which this was granted, to prove we didn't owe any back rent!
