HOW DO FREE MEN DRESS IN GOR?

Rollo the Ax 19:31:15 pm CDT

Well.... we are losing time here, so lets begin the forum and anybody else can just * jump in * when they show up... okay ??

Rollo the Ax 19:32:10 pm CDT

Welcome everybody to this weeks edition of the GS forum.... we will follow the same rules as always... everybody gets to have their say...even slaves, as long as it is done in a respectful manner.. once we start, keep the personal chit chat and greetings and such in WHISPERS so as to take some of the burden off of the scribes... anybody with a topic, question, or anything they wish to discuss, PM it to ME, and I will bring them up as time allows.. Okay ??? lets begin......

Rollo the Ax 19:34:29 pm CDT

We have one carry over topic from last week... * How do Masters dress on Gor * ... the varied types of clothing that men might be seen in ....

galah{GS}fg 19:34:50 pm CDT

very very quiet today **looks about** usually have 3 or 4 times this many here **deep sigh**

Kristian.. speak softly, but carry a big stick 19:38:04 pm CDT

galah.. yes, very quiet.. maybe they heeded my tag.. chuckles..

galah{GS}fg 19:38:15 pm CDT

nekid is good heheheheheheeeeee gal remembers many many years ago, a Master came in here totally nekid, and he thought nuthin of it either

galah{GS}fg 19:39:44 pm CDT

so its all your fault Master Kristian? heheheheheheheeeee heheheheheee glad someone took the blame for it so gal don't hafta hehehehehehehee

rhian{GS} 19:39:58 pm CDT

The fellow wore the white and gold of the merchant, beneath a seaman's aba. It was not likely that a merchant would wear that garment unless he was entitled to it. Goreans are particular about such matters. Doubtless he owned and captained his own vessel.

Explorers of Gor  pg. 43

Rollo the Ax 19:40:17 pm CDT

This topic can be as varied as the books allow.. I mean let face it... in places like Ar, a tunic would be the most common garb... and so the same in many other places... the men of the Tahari would have robes and pants much like those we associate with Arab countries... Torvaldslanders wear pants, fur boots, shirts and vests ... and coats for really cold weather.. the Red Savages of the barrens loin clothes like American Indians......

OriginalSandman_Builder/Captain of GS 19:40:25 pm CDT

I know in my case I wear robes,, with a cloak,, well worn,, black on the outside,, and on the advice of Kyoto trimmed in yellow to denote my caste

rhian{GS} 19:40:26 pm CDT

definition of aba: 1 : a loose sleeveless outer garment worn as traditional dress by men in the Middle East

2 : a fabric woven from the hair of camels or goats

galah{GS}fg 19:40:36 pm CDT

whats an aba?

galah{GS}fg 19:42:10 pm CDT

thanks rhian...that helps heaps

rhian{GS} 19:42:48 pm CDT

your welcome, mistress. rhian had to look it up also

galah{GS}fg 19:43:21 pm CDT

its assumed that there are no zippers on gor? Masters pants would be fastened with laces much like a navy mans pants?

Rollo the Ax 19:43:55 pm CDT

That is agood point, galah.... Gor and those there do NOT have any of the social stigmas that Earth people do of bare skin... slaves are very often naked... even male slaves to a degee... a Free man would think little of being naked .... except where social norms decreed different....

rhian{GS} 19:44:03 pm CDT

I opened the leather bundle. In it I found the scarlet tunic, sandals and cloak which constitute the normal garb of a member of the Caste of Warriors. This was as it should be, as I was of that caste, and had been since that morning, some seven years ago, when in the Chamber of council of High Caste I had accepted weapons from the hands of my father, Matthew Cabot, Administrator of Ko-ro-ba, and had taken the Home Stone of that city as my own. Book 2 page 21

Kristian.. speak softly, but carry a big stick 19:44:04 pm CDT

will show you my winter coat for my life iv Torvaldsland.. brb

galah{GS}fg 19:44:42 pm CDT

and when Masters wore the traditional tunic....such a red tunic for a warrior, did he wear anything underneath? like would they wear underwear? boxers, briefs? heheheheheheheee

Kristian.. speak softly, but carry a big stick 19:46:00 pm CDT

this is my winter outfit in Torvaldsland..

galah{GS}fg 19:46:34 pm CDT

well then rhian, the bundle carried all he was wearing and it says nuthin about undies hehehehehehee

rhian{GS} 19:47:15 pm CDT

nope. rhian would assume that they wouldn't. somewhere it said something about panties of Urth girls.

galah{GS}fg 19:49:18 pm CDT

i could be mistaken, but i thought there was a quote about a codpiece? a piece of padding over a Masters genitals to protect him while sparring and such?

Kristian.. speak softly, but carry a big stick 19:49:48 pm CDT

off w/undies.. lol..

OriginalSandman_Builder/Captain of GS 19:50:11 pm CDT

LOL

Rollo the Ax 19:51:01 pm CDT

I do not remember the books making that clear, galah... they spoke of breeches or loose pants I think... and I can say that in history, many times some sort of * underpants * were often wore... but without zippers or elastic waist bands, they would be loose fitting and use a draw string I would suspect....

Rollo the Ax 19:52:46 pm CDT

I do not remember a * codpiece * persay... if used when sparring, it would more like a cup or padded cup to protect the family jewels....

Kristian.. speak softly, but carry a big stick 19:53:35 pm CDT

galah.. in Torvaldsland we call the cod piece "lutefisk"

galah{GS}fg 19:54:54 pm CDT

hhmmmmmmmmm must have been a past Master that spoke of a codpiece then Master Rollo, in describing himself....but wouldn't a codpiece be much like a padded cup to protect those things?

rhian{GS} 19:56:03 pm CDT

He might need a whole shield, mistress *giggles*

mary{GS} 19:56:11 pm CDT

mary has heard the word "codpiece" used as well ...but she cannot remember what context it was used in...

galah{GS}fg 19:56:33 pm CDT

a codpiece has nuthin to do with fishes Master Kristian heheheheheeeee hehehehehehe

Rollo the Ax 19:58:11 pm CDT

I think that the main thing that needs to be rememberd is that the world of GOR is as diverse as is Earth.... and in truth, those here were brought to Gor MANY gererations ago FROM Earth, so we would see much the same types of clothing as we would from all of the ethnic groups on earth......

galah{GS}fg 19:58:13 pm CDT

thank you mary, gal was thinkin she was dreaming up words again hehehehehee

Kristian.. speak softly, but carry a big stick 19:58:17 pm CDT

galah.. didn't know you knew what lutefisk was.. lol..

mary{GS} 19:59:11 pm CDT

*winks to galah* nahhh, mistress, you aren't THAT crazy..hehehehe

rhian{GS} 19:59:32 pm CDT

I did not wish to be recognized. I, and Rim and Thurnock, wore the simple tunics of seamen.

Hunters

galah{GS}fg 20:00:06 pm CDT

girls always describe their silks and how they cover them, it would sure be good if Masters would give alil more description of themselves too so if we girls was undressing a Master, we would have a better idea of what we are taking off of him heheheheheeee boots, would they have laces or be pulled on style?

mary{GS} 20:00:59 pm CDT

mary thought that boots were laced?

SABRE20:01:07 pm CDT

I usually wear the PK(Priest King) label,,laughs,,btw,,Tal folks

aurora{Ulrich} 20:01:36 pm CDT

often times Masters whisper girls what they are wearing

so they can describe what they are removing

at least that has been aurora's experience *lol*

galah{GS}fg 20:02:18 pm CDT

well...trying to picture this in my head now....if we kneel nadu it gives Masters a good peek at all girls charms below, but if he only wears a tunic and he's sitting down, are the girls getting a peek at all his goods? heheheheheheheee

Rollo the Ax 20:02:46 pm CDT

An actual * codpiece * is more like a big padded thing that was worn during the Renesance period... think, tights and puffy shorts or such... 1200's - maybe 1600's.... in European countries...

mary{GS} 20:02:51 pm CDT

hmmmmmm *mind wanders at galah's comment*

aurora{Ulrich} 20:03:07 pm CDT

boots: In addition, the mounted warriors inevitably wear a high, soft pair of boots called tharlarion boots. These protect their legs from the abrasive hides of their mounts. When a tharlarion runs, its hide could tear the unprotected flesh from a man's bones.

Tarnsman

nassy{GS} 20:03:11 pm CDT

smiling at mistress's words and her own thoughts of the goods the girl could be seeing

galah{GS}fg 20:03:26 pm CDT

well, you been lucky then aurora....cause it seems that gal is left with her own imagination heheheheheheeee

rhian{GS} 20:04:24 pm CDT

talk about dangling treats in front of a girl. *laughs*

nassy{GS} 20:05:10 pm CDT

laughs...then licks her lips

Rollo the Ax 20:06:15 pm CDT

boots, once again, would be of many types... short top, long top... lace up, slip on...

Sabre20:06:18 pm CDT

gussing the next paga could be interesting with all this new mind candy eh girls? laugh

mary{GS} 20:06:44 pm CDT

You betcha, Master *winks to Master Sabre*

galah{GS}fg 20:07:18 pm CDT

well geeeeeeeeezzz girls, really...in the descriptions given, and if they only wear tunics, and men never sit with their legs together, thats way to uncomfortable for them heheheheheeeee wouldn't our knelt form have a clear view? heheheheheee

nassy{GS} 20:07:24 pm CDT

aye Master Sabre..*smiling*

Kristian.. speak softly, but carry a big stick 20:07:32 pm CDT

Rollo.. yes a codpiece was worn by the vikings dsuring battle..

mary{GS} 20:07:50 pm CDT

agreed, mistress...very much agreed! hehehehe *eyes light up*

aurora{Ulrich} 20:07:52 pm CDT

whos complaining mistress? *lol*

the less to remove the better *L

nassy{GS} 20:08:06 pm CDT

aye mistress we would

galah{GS}fg 20:08:44 pm CDT

oooooooohh yessssssssss Master Sabre, gal thinks we could indeed have some fun with this new vision heheheheeeee heheheee woooooooooo hhhooooooooooooo

galah{GS}fg 20:09:40 pm CDT

gal just knows shes gonna develop a terrible drooling problem heheheheheheheee

Sabre20:09:47 pm CDT

can't wait! lick his lips,,personally i always set cross legged,,indian sytle,,even r/t,,"G"

rhian{GS} 20:10:15 pm CDT

the floor are going to have to be constantly mopped, mistress *grins*

mary{GS} 20:10:46 pm CDT

*eyes on Master Sabre...mind wanders...to dark places..*

Rollo the Ax 20:11:28 pm CDT

and again, as for what any man wears under his tunic ??? it is personal choice... some traditions may well come to play.. like wearing a kilt ??? I have worn them, and own a * great * kilt that I use when in costume for Medieval events, and everybody knows that true Scots do NOT wear anything under their kilt......LOL..

galah{GS}fg 20:11:54 pm CDT

gal pictures all the Masters except for captains in their curule chairs sitting cross legged Master Sabre, but gal kindda had in her head they was all wearing britches, pants, trousers heheheheheeee not just a tunic....gives a whole new meaning to dragging it in the dirt? heheheheheheheee

mary{GS} 20:12:14 pm CDT

yummy vision, Master Rollo *grins wickedly*

rhian{GS} 20:13:09 pm CDT

so would the kilt cover everything, Master Rollo? *grins*

Sabre20:13:30 pm CDT

that was gonna be my question,,lenght of the tunics,,thanks Captain,,grin lil winkys gonna hang out eh?

galah{GS}fg 20:13:37 pm CDT

but do you wear pants or only a tunic Master Sabre? this is where Masters gotta try and be alil more descriptive, then us girls could make the most outta it heheheheheheheheee

Rollo the Ax 20:14:14 pm CDT

It was called something different, Kristian, but the basic jewel protector, codpiece, cup, or whatever you want to call it dates back to the Roman legions...

mary{GS} 20:14:17 pm CDT

*laughs softly* lil winkys? Wee Willy Winky...

galah{GS}fg 20:14:52 pm CDT

tunic could be well below the knee Master Sabre, but if you was to plonk down on a fur to sit cross legged, then that tunic is surely gonna rise up above the knee heheheheheheheeee

Sabre20:15:53 pm CDT

I'll have to set more carefully to be sure galah,,laughs,,wouldn't wanna squash him,

galah{GS}fg 20:16:24 pm CDT

Masters would have an extra digit to point to his feet with? hehehehehehee

Ulrich 20:16:51 pm CDT

How do you think we count to 21 galah?

mary{GS} 20:16:58 pm CDT

*just...dies...hearing galah*

galah{GS}fg 20:17:59 pm CDT

heheheheheeeee heheheheheeee but Master Ulrich, how often would a Master need count so high? heheheheheheeeee

Rollo the Ax 20:18:32 pm CDT

a true traditional * tunic * would hang down to the knees or so... maybe shorter for some and longer for others... and a kilt wears to about knee lenght... so nothing * shows * while standing... bit sitting or laying down ??? LOL...LOL.. I guess the thin gto remember is that * not ALL men are created EQUAL * stands true...... LOL..

galah{GS}fg 20:19:22 pm CDT

**fans her face with alil hand** is it getting warm in here? heheheheheheeee heheheheeeee maybe a subject change before all us girls start swooning heheheheheeee hehehehehee

mary{GS} 20:19:23 pm CDT

*grins hearing Master Rollo, but bites her tongue...just pondering things*

Sabre20:20:27 pm CDT

so,,next time i gotta order 2 pagas,,laughs,,one for me and one for,,err,,him,,

Kristian.. speak softly, but carry a big stick 20:20:49 pm CDT

lutefik is cod.. its a tradional christmas dish..

galah{GS}fg 20:21:05 pm CDT

so Master Rollo, what would be your opinion or idea or thoughts about a Master walking in nude?

mary{GS} 20:21:37 pm CDT

does the little Master need a straw for his paga, Master Sabre?

mary{GS} 20:21:47 pm CDT

heheheh

Sabre20:22:40 pm CDT

no,,but We might share it with you mary,,grins n winks

Rollo the Ax 20:22:41 pm CDT

and as for the * great * kilt I spoke of.. only the new style kilts are the ones that look that pleated skirts.. the OLD great kilt was one long piece of cloth.. many many feet long that was wrapped around the waist and over the shoulder and such .... at night it could be used as a sleeping blanket or such....

mary{GS} 20:23:37 pm CDT

*blushes and fans herself with a wicked grin to Master Sabre*

rhian{GS} 20:23:41 pm CDT

sounds like plenty of room for a girl to get lost in, Master Rollo

galah{GS}fg 20:24:04 pm CDT

and gal knows, for a big Master like Master Rollo, it takes like 12 metres of fabric for the great kilt, she thinks that is the measurement of it

Sabre20:24:40 pm CDT

so,,ya unwrap it,,sleep nekid useing it for a blanket?,,grins,,,,hopefully ya don't put the wrong end(could have been wrapped round yer ass!) near your face

nassy{GS} 20:26:05 pm CDT

scrunches up her nose at that thought Master Sabre

Rollo the Ax 20:26:31 pm CDT

Nude ??? well it would be a subject for conversation, to be sure... LOL... and in all truth, would not happen except in some very strange case... shirtless would be common.. but totally buck naked ?? not really...... LOL..

galah{GS}fg 20:26:33 pm CDT

and its a sight to see also, gotta lay out the kilt and then Master has to lay down and roll into it to make it look right, giving it that pleated look and plenty of fullness

Rollo the Ax 20:31:00 pm CDT

LOL...LOL... somewhere around that, galah... lay it out on the ground, fold in some pleats on one end, then lay on the floor and roll up in your great kilt... then toss the end over your shoulder and tuck it in...... LOL...

mary{GS} 20:32:17 pm CDT

*imagines Master Rollo rolling up into His kilt like a hotdog to a bun..pigs in a blanket anyone?* hhehe

rhian{GS} 20:32:59 pm CDT

who gets the first bite of weenie? *grins*

mary{GS} 20:33:21 pm CDT

me me me!! lol

Rollo the Ax 20:35:29 pm CDT

and as for Torvaldslanders.. or at least myself, pants, boots, maybe a shirt and vest ... in good weather no shirt... LOL...LOL... got enough fur on me to keep warm.. and almost get mistaken as a Kur.... LOL...LOL.. long beard, and bald head.... tattoos on arms chest and back.... so why wear a shirt and hide the skin art ??? LOL..

GOREAN AMOUR?

galah{GS}fg 20:38:42 pm CDT

maybe a comment about armor Master Rollo?

galah{GS}fg 20:39:07 pm CDT

or in the case of gor, lack of armor

Sabre20:39:42 pm CDT

sounds like we're gonna need some armor to get paga,,laughs

mary{GS} 20:40:11 pm CDT

*mind is still wandering some...heheheh*

Rollo the Ax 20:43:27 pm CDT

Okay... for some reason, when John Norman wrote the Gor books, he chose to make the use of armour * UN-Gorean *.... gorean warriors may wear a helmet and carry a shield.... but body armour was not used .... WHY ??? I don't know because it would be much more reasonable to wear it in full battle...... but good old JN said no armour, so no armour......

galah{GS}fg 20:44:21 pm CDT

wasn't it considered by goreans for armor to be cowardice Master Rollo?

Rollo the Ax 20:47:19 pm CDT

yes, galah... no true warrior would wear body armour... but I seem to remember a merchant or somebody wearing some in one book... but others looked down on him for doing so...... the guy died in the end anyway.. LOL..so who can say......??

Rollo the Ax 20:49:27 pm CDT

and this also causes confusion for some because they see cover art for a couple of the books, done by an artist that did not read the books showing guys in chest plates and full armour.... ????

Sabre20:52:52 pm CDT

just listens,,never needed any

rhian{GS} 20:52:56 pm CDT

girl has noticed that with many books, Master Rollo

Rollo the Ax 20:54:16 pm CDT

I mean to a casual observer just looking at the cover to * Assassin of Gor * the Star publishers addition, they would see guys an full armour, and even an elephant statue ..... Gor does NOT have elephants either... so the artist Chris Archellous got it all wrong.. ( but the guy did GREAT work... )

Sabre20:55:40 pm CDT

thats why i keep plenty of elephant repellant around,,grins,,it works well, now if someone could just develop idiot repellant the world would be a better place,,laugh

rhian{GS} 20:56:56 pm CDT

isn't that what natural selection is for, Master Sabre? doesn't work that great tho

OriginalSandman_Builder/Captain of GS 20:57:23 pm CDT

chuckling thinking of the Marx Brothers ,, Capt Spaulding...'' I just once shot an elephant in my pajamas........ what he was doing in my pajamas I havent a clue"

mary{GS} 20:57:24 pm CDT

hehehe, rhian

{HJ}Herrins pride and joy kitty {pbMM} 20:57:45 pm CDT

~listens to the room~

mary{GS} 20:57:55 pm CDT

Master Sandman, mary had that same thought! LOL!

Sabre20:58:32 pm CDT

it's slow,,laughs,,thats why i love Gor,,in that aspect only the strong, quick and smart servive

Rollo the Ax 20:58:43 pm CDT

for example.. three differnt books show three VERY differnt picture of a Kuri.... on Captive it looks like a bear or wolverine.. on Mauraders, it looks like an unearthly gorilla only worse.. and on Tribesmen it looks more like a robot or stone monster... LOL..LOL...

rhian{GS} 20:59:32 pm CDT

it also depends on the version of each book You have, Master

galah{GS}fg 21:00:16 pm CDT

many years back, had one coming in as a kurr, was great RP with it....whoever it was did a great job!!!

galah{GS}fg 21:01:05 pm CDT

also many years back, had an afflicted One coming in, that was very interesting also

Rollo the Ax 21:03:39 pm CDT

LOL...LOL.. for myself, I accept the version on Marauders cover....LOL...LOL.. big surprise....LOL.. so much so that I have one inked on my shoulder.... to remind me that the * beast * is aklways there... right behind your shoulder... ready to get you if you are not vigulant.......

Rollo the Ax 21:07:02 pm CDT

Well folks.... it is that time yet again..... I hope everybody has enjoyed this weeks forum... we will do it again.... same time, same place next week ...
