ONLINISMS

Kyoto 19:22:10 CST

Ok, let's get going.

Grinning at Lemuel and his beautiful slut

Rollo will not be here till late if at all, so I am going to run the show for now. anyone having a topic of discussion, please send it to me by pm.

Laroona 19:23:52 CST

Captain Kyoto with respect the slave alyena has offered to scribe *S*

I thank you little one *S*

Kyoto 19:26:43 CST

Ok, the forum is under way, try and keep public posts to a minimum if they are not topic related so that the slave scribing can keep up.

Kyoto 19:29:33 CST

A reminder to all tavern slaves, it is time for slave wine. Please be sure to take your dose and post your compliance on the boards. We don't want any little slavelets wandering about the tavern. It is after all a pg-18 site.

penda{GS} 19:30:16 CST

~*Smiles softly, knowing poor amira has no idea just how horrid it is.*~

penda has gotten hers. Master.

{Ruilans_she-urt} 19:30:34 CST

*shivers at the thought of crumb-snatchers running around*

amira_GS_ 19:31:00 CST 24.209.37.246

~eyes wide then wrinkles her nose after an explaination~...

topaz-{Rast's_girl} 19:32:21 CST

makes a face, so glad she does not have to take the foul brew...giggles at her other sisters...amber eyes dancing

Laroona 19:32:23 CST

*chuckles* it is good for you all LOL

charis 19:33:23 CST

red lips part and a lil frown appears upon her beautiful face, but then grins as charis realizes it does not apply to her

Kyoto 19:38:06 CST

Ok, since none here have a topic, I'm going to bring one up that was sent to me by mail.

Now, Kyoto, onto the 'winds' comment. It's actually a shortened version of a VERY common onlineism. The actual statement is: "Winds, Steel, and above all honor to you." and to date, I myself have never seen it in the books...however, as someone who, on the whole has learned to dislike onlineisms, this one, in my opinion is pretty harmless, and no big deal in my opinion. I find I get more annoyed with the A/all, Y/you statements, and stuff like make believe Gorean words like 'jashi' and 'avan'shae' being used. These are just throwbacks to the old days mostly, when online Gor wasn't as book oriented as we in GS have over the last couple years aimed GS. Personally (and I don't believe I'll be available to make it tonight) I would very much prefer to see this as a topic brought up and discussed at forum, mainly to make it known to those who might NOT know that such things are onlineisms, and are mostly unnecessary. Just a few thoughts from me...for whatever they're worth.

I was questioning the usage of the word "winds " as people leave as I have yet to find mention of it in the books

penda{GS} 19:39:44 CST

~*Stays quiet on this topic, knowing it applies not to her.*~

jasma{LB} 19:40:02 CST

~listening carefully to the topic~

{Ruilans_she-urt} 19:40:13 CST

*softly* may not be in the books, but it makes sense to use something like "winds" since Port Kar is a port city and surrounded by water. The "winds" would mean fair sailing and fat purses to a bunch of Pirates.

Kyoto 19:40:25 CST

Do people view this as a harmless onlinism? Most know I'm a pain in the ass when it comes to the books and adherance to them... I stopped using it long ago when I realized it was not supported. I use "I wish you well" which is common.

Laroona 19:41:13 CST

Captain Kyoto I usually wish a free well when they leave...

I also am opposed to the A/all etc and other onlisms often used such as chaq, rask etc...

{Ruilans_she-urt} 19:41:30 CST

so many aspects of life are not in the books Master Kyoto, is there really any harm in adding somethings to the experience?

Kyoto 19:42:02 CST

Are you so sure penda? Remember, this goes beyond that to cover all onlinisms.

Lemuel 19:42:19 CST

~nods as I hear the topic~

Aye Kyoto, and You won't find the term "winds" used as a farewell in the books, but considering that Port Kar is a sea port it's not too far fetched that sailors would wish each other "fair winds"

{Ruilans_she-urt} 19:42:19 CST

ari can agree with that Mistress as those are obvious onlinisms that were made up just for the sake of being made up. they do not enhance or add any value to Gor.

{Ruilans_she-urt} 19:42:19 CST

ari can agree with that Mistress as those are obvious onlinisms that were made up just for the sake of being made up. they do not enhance or add any value to Gor.

Deirdre 19:42:25 CST

Kyoto.....To be honest, I didn't know that the saying wasn't supported....but I don't doubt You because I know how You research things. Makes One wonder how it ever began on online Gor, doesn't it?

Kyoto 19:42:54 CST

Then perhaps, I wish you good sailing? Or I wish you fair sailing?

{Ruilans_she-urt} 19:43:09 CST

*smiles* or, winds.

Kyoto 19:43:49 CST

Fair winds does make sense

Kyoto 19:44:46 CST

Then what might you be meaning, ariel?

Lemuel 19:44:46 CST

~chuckling to myself as I read back and see ariel had the same thought and beat Me to the post button~

penda{GS} 19:45:07 CST

~*Smiles softly at Master Kyoto.*~

Aye. online..isms. Aren't something penda pays much attention to. It's always "well wishes" or something to that effect.

Kyoto 19:45:09 CST

What kind of winds?

Deirdre 19:46:02 CST

Kyoto....I guess One could say...."May Your winds be fair....and Your tempests be few?"

{Ruilans_she-urt} 19:46:47 CST

to ariel it is just a fast, common curtesy type saying that busy Men would use.. it would mean "fair winds" or "steady winds", simply shortened to, "winds". like see ya later, hope your day is good. some people just say, "later".

Lemuel 19:47:16 CST

Is it possible that it was originally "fair winds" and people just shortened it? Abreviations seem to happen a lot online, especially with those of us that are slow typists. ~G~

Lemuel 19:48:04 CST

~laughing again as ariel and I have a similar thought~

{Ruilans_she-urt} 19:48:28 CST

*grins as Master Lemuel and ari appear to be sharing the same brain waves*

{Ruilans_she-urt} 19:48:42 CST

ack! this is getting a bit frightening

Kyoto 19:49:00 CST

This is how I heard it when I first came to online Gor... "Winds, Steel, and above all honor to you." Sometimes shortened by dropping the "to you"

Laroona 19:49:46 CST

would it be more approraite to post keeping in line with the r/p of the Free

eg....

standing and walking towards my ship

or

standing and walking to my holdings or quarters etc..

then one could post appropriate in response....

Lemuel 19:49:57 CST

~nods~ Aye, and that's how I've heard it too.

Kyoto 19:50:10 CST

((Please keep thinking of topics and if anyone has one, whisper it to me.))

Sandman,,Builder_ 19:50:21 CST

speaking as one who is travelled to the earth island of puerto rico,, the natives there dont say buenos dias ,, or beunos noches ,, they simply say bueno,, no matter what the time of day,,

penda{GS} 19:50:42 CST

~*Listens quietly.*~

topaz-{Rast's_girl} 19:51:44 CST

aye, topaz has heard that over and over Master Kyoto, the words:

"Winds, Steel, and above all honor

{Ruilans_she-urt} 19:52:06 CST

it strikes ariel as a "no harm, no foul" type of saying.

i know that some words used in a Gorean setting are useless and 'cause unnecessary typing and confusion like, rask and H/he S/he.

Kyoto 19:52:15 CST

Possibly, then it would be a situational response, Laroona, such as knowing a friend is driving to the store and you say, "Drive safe".

amira_GS_ 19:52:21 CST 24.209.37.246

~sits quietly listening intently. taking all of this in. deeply~

Lemuel 19:54:26 CST

~nodding agreement with ariel~ Yes, I know they "old Gorean", "Kassar language", "IRC Gorean" or whatever you want to call it was confusing to Me when I started online. And it took Me forever to get used to capping some words that aren't normally capped in daily correspondence. ~chuckles~

Laroona 19:54:49 CST

Captain Kyoto with all respect I consider it could enhance role play that often is lacking

another example used often is when one slings a slave over ones shoulder...

I usually say I wish you well (name) and serve well (name)

Kyoto 19:55:07 CST

Chuckling as I consider the popular usage of rask

Don't you think Rask of Treve might be offended to know his name is synonymous with ass?

{Ruilans_she-urt} 19:55:15 CST

blaa, ari's glad she wasn't around during those days Master Lemuel.

Kyoto 19:56:34 CST

winking to Laroona

Or maybe just a general, "Enjoy the slut."

{Ruilans_she-urt} 19:56:37 CST

GS doesn't seem to have a big problem with the H/he S/she thing or the Old Gorean, Kassar language.

i can't remember the last time i saw anyone use rask.

penda{GS} 19:57:52 CST

~*Raises a hand.*~

is guilty of not even knowing what "Rask" was

Lemuel 19:58:03 CST

~nods to Kyoto~ Exactly. I never saw any reason for the made up language until is was pointed out to Me that it could be used by lifestylers to say things in public places that wouldn't be PC.

Deirdre 19:58:36 CST

I'm guilty of using the upper/lower case thingie.....but I can stop it. Not a problem. *grinning* I just did it because when I first came to Gor that was how it was done.....and it became habit.

Kyoto 19:58:52 CST

I've not seen it used in some time, at least here. wait, I do remember a slave using "Old Gorean" not long ago. It surprised me.

Lemuel 19:59:33 CST

~nods to Dei~ I've used it too because when I started I thought that was how it was supposed to be done.

Laroona 19:59:45 CST

I actually do have problems accepting the use of H/he S/she or Aall Hhe as examples as it is not in the books and it is writen on the hompage as not ecouraged.... I am not going to look for the page it is on but I do recall reading it *S*

Kyoto 20:00:34 CST

That's mostly a BDSM thing, Dierdre.

alyena{GS} 20:00:55 CST

~nods~ to Mistress Laroona....

aly thinks it is also mentioned in the slave manual..

Xertog 20:01:07 CST

I've never use the the term 'winds' and always wondered its origins. Something get brought over from BDSM like girls sweetening drinks. Which was popular a few years back.

Laroona 20:01:14 CST

adding that is my own issue and I accept it, but I have my own views

sorry folks should have added that part

ka'lima_{GS} has joined the chat at 20:01:19 CST

Deirdre 20:01:47 CST

*looking at Kyoto* Well....that makes sense.....since the Person that introduced Me to Gor was also into BDSM. Do You remember Lord Bloodbeast, Ky?

Lemuel 20:02:08 CST

~nods~ Ther are many Goreans that originally came from a BDSM backgrough though...so that's probably why it's seen fairly frequently online.

Kyoto 20:02:15 CST

I'm glad to see that sweetening is going by the wayside.

Kyoto 20:03:11 CST

Oh yeah, I've not seen him in years, Dierdre. He actually did a lot for GS in that score.

{Ruilans_she-urt} 20:03:18 CST

that was just flat out nasty.

{Ruilans_she-urt} 20:03:39 CST

Lord BloodBeast was in the Tavern on Friday.

Laroona 20:03:47 CST

*&sweetening* ugg never know where the slave had been before a serve ugggggggggggggg

Laroona 20:05:53 CST

Captain or another is offering to taste, another is slaves touching a Free without permission ... there are lots I consider we could debate *smiling*

Kyoto 20:06:11 CST

The tea ceremony... any comments from the slaves before I toss in my two tarsk bits?

ka'lima_{GS} 20:07:32 CST

~looking to Master Kyoto~ only that ka'lima has never seen it done, but that from what she has read it is a beautiful ceremony

charis 20:07:37 CST

topaz personally thinks tis a wonderful thing, the bazi tea ceremony, and is sorry tis not used at GS much anymore..actually has heard A LOT of gorean sites require a slave to know it before she attains her reds....

but to topaz tis the beauty of the serve and the three meaning, the growth, the life span......smiles softly

penda{GS} 20:08:07 CST

Tea ceremony. BAH. It's a crock.

~*Gives her two tarsk bits worth and then listens.*~

Kyoto 20:08:28 CST

Touching a free person, specifically a man, by a slave is acceptable if the slave does it correctly... say she is begging his attention or some such. The man can always cuff her aside.

Laroona 20:09:18 CST

Thank you Captain for that clarification *Smiling*

Kyoto 20:09:59 CST

charis?

charis 20:10:42 CST

looks up, smokey eyes wide....

Yes Master Kyoto????

Kyoto 20:11:34 CST

We may need to talk...

charis 20:11:49 CST

laughs as she realized she had posted topaz's whisper to her in public.....

sorry master Kyoto, topaz has been helping chair understand some things....

Xertog 20:12:21 CST

I have had two of my slaves do a bazi tea serves. I enjoyed both of them very much.. The books are vague on it as I recall.

topaz-{Rast's_girl} 20:12:59 CST

Master Kyoto, please forgive chairs, it was topaz's fault as she has been whispering to charis about GS and her thoughts on different things, such as the bazi tea ceremony...no thinking that her comment was necessary to be made public

Kyoto 20:13:10 CST

charis... seems to be an odd whisper to drop, but we'll talk later, ok?

Lemuel 20:14:04 CST

The point is there's nothing like the tea ceremony in the books, it's a total online invention. Here's what John Norman had to say about it in the "Norman Notes" section of the WoG site:

"whereas it is an interesting idea that the three tiny cups of Bazi tea might be taken to represent the three stages of life, there is nothing to that effect, as I recall, in the Gorean books. Also, if there is, it would be too bad, and incongruent with the Gorean reality, given the stabilization serums.

Presumably the three stages of life would be youth, middle age, and old age. The stabilization serums would presumably make old age, as we normally think of it, quite rare on Gor. One supposes that in some cases, the stabilization serums might not work, or the subject’s system, unfortunately, might reject them, or such."

Laroona 20:14:08 CST

Xertog you just loved the attention *chcukling*

charis 20:14:16 CST

blushes, raven locks dark against her cheeks

see charis is C&Ping sister topaz words to her own jorunal, and made the post here in the room, she apoligizes Master Kyoto!!

charis 20:15:14 CST

yes Master Kyoto, if You deam it necessary, charis is always willing to speak....red lips smiles softly

jasma{LB} 20:16:26 CST

~respectfully~ the *ceremony* in this one's opinion is pretty.. but to her very unnecessary as it's not done in the books.. once again in jaz's opinion

{Ruilans_she-urt} 20:17:00 CST

and again, does it hurt GS or Gor in anyway to have this ceremony? does it hence or hinder?

Kyoto 20:17:09 CST

Nodding as I listen to Lemuel.

I think it is mentioned in Tribesman, mainly just that the teas were drunk in rapid succession. And knowing J Norman, if there were some special occasion attached to it, he would have covered 20 pages of discussion on it.

Kyoto 20:17:55 CST

Nodding

Thank you, charis. I understand you two are close friends.

Laroona 20:18:04 CST

Lemuel I agree it is onlism to a point, and yet I enjoy seeing it performed,

I consider it to be creative writing the sames as dances *S*

My thoughts on the Bazi tea *S*

charis 20:18:56 CST

smiles softly at Master Kyoto

Master, topaz has been helping charis, wishing indeed she could call topaz a close friend, but would not dare to presume such a thing at this time yet

Kyoto 20:19:25 CST

I enjoy drinking tea and have ordered it in Gor a few times. I prefer a more trimmed down version.

Lemuel 20:19:35 CST

~laughs~ Yes, Norman can be very verbose at times. I don't think it hurts anything for the girls to do the serve as a ceremony if that's what the Person she's serving wants.

topaz-{Rast's_girl} 20:19:51 CST

*winks at the beuty and smiles*

friends become close eventually charis!

*grins*

Lemuel 20:21:41 CST

~nods~ I prefer a shorter version when I order tea too, not that I order tea very often. ~G~

ka'lima_{GS} 20:21:57 CST

~chuckles~ Master Lemuel (a pleasure to meet You by the way), slaves must do whatever we are asked... tis the nature of being a slave ~weg~ and one of the best parts the girl may add

topaz-{Rast's_girl} 20:21:59 CST

*nods softly*

topaz has done it elaborate or as Master Kyoto said, more scaled down, and either way has enjoyed it so much!....as it is a different thing to do from the "regular" serves....*chuckles*

Laroona 20:22:15 CST

caitlin served bazi tea to Xertog and I, and it was so well presented, and thoughtful to serve both owners and bring into the serve our lives actually brought RT tears to my eyes

jasma{LB} 20:22:19 CST

Tribesmen of Gor, page 38

Tea is extremely important to the nomads. It is served hot and heavily sugared. It gives them strength then, in virtue of the sugar, and cools them, by making them sweat, as well as stimulating them. It is drunk three small cups at a time, carefully measured.

Kyoto 20:22:57 CST

It would be good for slaves to know both ways. Although I am not requiring the formal one be learned by my slaves.

Kyoto 20:23:46 CST

Thank you, jasma, I forgot I could always rely on you for quotes.

Grinning at Lemuel's beauty.

Lemuel 20:23:46 CST

~nods to the girl~ Aye ka'lima, which is why I see no harm in a girl performing the serve as the On being served wishes. Different strokes for differnt folks, as the saying goes. ~G~

topaz-{Rast's_girl} 20:24:06 CST

smiles at Mistress Laroona, remembering it also!!!

Laroona 20:24:36 CST

*smiling at jasma* the one who had quotes on hand *S*

Kyoto 20:25:33 CST

I'd like to see a version of tea that is similar to chai presented. After all, Kyoto is from the Tahari.

charis 20:29:17 CST

charis looks around, having been told not to greet poublically while Forum in under way, but seeing so Many others, she also speaks softly.............

Greetings Master Rollo, charis hopes all is wel with You

Rollo_the_Ax 20:31:02 CST

I appreciate everybody greeting Me, but once the forum has started, we should all try to keep greetings to whispers tomake it easier for the scribes, folks .....

charis 20:32:58 CST

RT beckons a girl, sorry..........slips out quietly

alyena{GS} 20:33:16 CST

may aly ask a quick question regarding the greeting in whispers in here??

alyena{GS} 20:36:56 CST

this may seem a silly question.... but aly can come up with those...

when Forum starts.... is it ok for a slave to whisper a greetings to a Free Person?? we're told not to under any circumstances without asking?? does that rule not apply for Forum?

penda{GS} 20:40:36 CST

penda always whispers to the Free after Forum starts for her greetings and she's never been in trouble for it so assumes at Forum it's ok

amira_GS_ 20:41:33 CST 24.209.37.246

~ eyes flicker emerald flames smiling as the question she had is now answered~

Kyoto 20:42:24 CST

In the forum, I would think that since the rules discourage public greeting, that slaves should whisper. If the free person does not like this, then they know for next time.

Rollo_the_Ax 20:42:42 CST

alyena, I will answer that....... The RULES say that once the Forum starts, greetings and any cross talk..( chit chat ) should be done in whispers to make it easier for the scribes.... So it is required IN the forum....and any Free that wants to get their panties in a twist for being greeted in whispers, well.....tell tham to take it up with ME !!!!!!!! as for chit chat, that is a different matter.....but a greeting is NOT an invasion of privacy HERE in the Forum.......

topaz-{Rast's_girl} 20:43:30 CST

*hears Master Rollo and Master Kyoto and nods softly*

ka'lima_{GS} 20:43:43 CST

~wiping her brow, relieved at Master's answer~

Deirdre 20:44:13 CST

Captain Rollo.....*grinning at the Big Man*.....Just for the record.....My panties are not in a twist.....and I'm totally kewl with greetings done in private. I apologize tonight for My chitting and chatting.....*smiling as I tease*

Laroona 20:46:40 CST

Thank you Captain Rollo for clarifying that, with respect I would like to add that the scribes have troubles saving the posts as it is at times and any little thing that makes their lot easier I can say it is appreciated *S*

editing them all takes time, and often that time could be spent doing other things such as serving *S*

I for one appreciate the work they do *S*

alyena{GS} 20:49:35 CST

~smiles as she catches up from a dial up urt~

thank You Masters Rollo and Kyoto for answering aly.... the girl assumed it would be an ok thing... but.. well.. aly has a knack for getting into trouble so she thought now would be a good time to make sure on the subject.. ~smiles~

Rollo_the_Ax 20:49:37 CST

I don't mean to sound like I am piss off at anybody, but lets face it, folks.... to get mad at somebody trying to be civil enough to just say * Hi, hope you are doing okay * seems like the act of someone that is more worried about trying to LOOK the part of a Master/Mistress, than BEING and ACTING the part ....does that sound right or reasonable ??? get My drift ????

Lemuel 20:50:33 CST

~nods agreement with Rollo~

topaz-{Rast's_girl} 20:51:12 CST

nods at Master Rollo's words

Kyoto 20:52:12 CST

Absolutely, Rollo.

Laroona 20:52:53 CST

ariel true I do not, well according to ariel LOL... but I do have stumps ya know *laughing so hard*

any slaves knows they are welcome to PM a greeting or even how is the weatheretc to me at forums at any time

Nazirah has joined the chat at 20:53:20 CST

Rollo_the_Ax 20:55:02 CST

LOL...LOL.. Well, I WAS only using an example.....hell, I don't wear those things....too confining.....we called it * going commando *.... LOL.. in the jungle you can get * crotch rot * and THAT is NOT a nice thing.......LOL..LOL.. so as for * twisted panties * ??? don't ever worry about Rollo.....okay ???? LOL..LOL..LMAO

Rollo_the_Ax 20:58:15 CST

Far too often.....both here, on-line and in RT.....many folks get upset over tiny little shit like this..greeting in whispers ... and make a big deal of it.....then never say a word over TRULY big and important issues....????? Try and explain THAT ????? sratching my bald head.....

Kyoto 21:02:20 CST

Ok, guessing that we've talked that to death, if there is nothing else, I will call tonight's forum to a close?

bottom of page
