smiling,, we have had a question ,, about the book club,, as to will it resume.. I know I havent been able to attend due to my RT,, I will add,, is there interest in continuing the book club?
snowrose{JTr}'s pleasure 19:32:35 pm CDT
snowrose really misses the book club...she shows up every week hoping
nasreen{TH}t 19:32:43 pm CDT
this girls rt has pulled her away also...tis why she has been gone so much....she hopes that over the next month it will lighten...
natira{GS} 19:33:00 pm CDT
girl very much enjoys going to the book discussions Master, it allows her to see what others think of what is being read, as to their interpretations
Dak 19:33:45 pm CDT
if there is enough interest, I will moderate it if all don't mind
dena{GS} 19:35:22 pm CDT
tuesday's are awful for this girl, but if the club is posted on the corks she would love to keep up that way.
Laroona 19:35:24 pm CDT
Xertog mentioned the book club the other evening to me and he will be making a post soon regarding it
snowrose{JTr}'s pleasure 19:36:09 pm CDT
dena, snowrose scribes it for her Master and ruby and aidan, so will be happy to send You a copy..
Ulrich 19:36:41 pm CDT
I will run it by the Council, and see if there is a time Xertog would be able to run it. He has done a great job with it when r/t has allowed him.
OriginalSandman_Builder/Captain of GS 19:37:44 pm CDT
hmm looks to me like there is interest ,, lets see what Xertog has to say in His posting,, so watch the boards for more infomation
Laroona 19:38:19 pm CDT
Ulrich the way he spoke he is interested in runnning it still, but then I cannot speak for him LOL
only mention what he indicated to me
dena{GS} 19:38:31 pm CDT
oh thank you snowrose, that would be lovely. you are such a good scribe. *winks*
Laroona 19:39:55 pm CDT
dena yes she is *S*
but then we can train you too LOL
nasreen{TH}t 19:40:19 pm CDT
perhaps Master Xertog and Master Dak can work together to put on the discussion...
Ulrich 19:40:54 pm CDT
That's good news Laroona. We'll see what he has to say.
dena{GS} 19:41:33 pm CDT
Mistress Laroona, that is why dena is slave...to be trained at any task. *sharp nod of her head*
Laroona 19:43:03 pm CDT
**chuckles at dena**
OriginalSandman_Builder/Captain of GS 19:46:07 pm CDT
excellent,, does anyone have another question for discussion tonight.. PM me
DeSoto 19:48:32 pm CDT

Laroona 19:50:47 pm CDT
on a side note any slave wishing to learn how to scribe, this spreads the load from snowrose please email the gs-scribe@hotmail.com and I am willing to teach how .. the notes should give some indication what is saved
if you can C&P it is easy just a matter of keeping posts in time stamps or as close as possible to undersatand the flow of the topic
OriginalSandman_Builder/Captain of GS 19:52:38 pm CDT
smiles,, thank you for offering to teach Laroona
natira{GS} 19:53:27 pm CDT
~giggles softly~ this seems to be a quiet week ~smiles~
Laroona 19:53:49 pm CDT
Sandman it is my duty I feel to help as much as I can *S*
Laroona 19:54:35 pm CDT
oops and do not use Sandman's or my typists they are terrible LOL
marsh{GS} 19:54:36 pm CDT
this girl sent in her topic last week ~wink~
OriginalSandman_Builder/Captain of GS 19:54:59 pm CDT
someone here tonight has seen a program abut Roman Pompei,, which was known for the slave/sex trade ,, how does this compare to Gor
OriginalSandman_Builder/Captain of GS 19:55:26 pm CDT
LOL,, the canals are lined with former typists
natira{GS} 19:56:05 pm CDT
~winces very glad she is not a typist thinking of those canals~
Laroona 19:56:16 pm CDT
I think they are resurfacing Sandman LOL
Lady Lita 19:57:01 pm CDT
There are some who say that Norman based a lot of his ideas of slavery on Roman pracices. The one difference is that Roman slaves could rise to very high positions and still be slaves, and they could also earn or buy their freedom.
OriginalSandman_Builder/Captain of GS 19:57:14 pm CDT
does anyone ,, have any comment,, or insight
Laroona 19:58:02 pm CDT
I think a lot of Normans work comes from ancient history such as the Roman and Eastern Euopean cultures
~zoya{GS}~ 19:59:04 pm CDT
no Master ~shaking her head~ zoya has never heard of Roman Pompei
natira{GS} 19:59:12 pm CDT
girl finds the similarities almost mind boggling, it is awesome to know that this kind of lifestyle existed long before there was a name given to it. it helps to explain some things a little she thinks
DeSoto 20:00:21 pm CDT
I think some does as well but it was mostly a statement against feminists and women taking over in society. remember this was the 60s
Lady Lita 20:00:35 pm CDT
Again, the one difference is that Roman slaves could rise to very high positions and still be slaves, and they could also earn or buy their freedom.
natira{GS} 20:01:00 pm CDT
yes Mistress Lita ~smiles~
dena{GS} 20:01:06 pm CDT
the Romans did use slavery as a punishment or embarassment as well though. those slaves (christian women mostly) were not well prized.
nasreen{TH}t 20:01:43 pm CDT
listening
Dak 20:01:45 pm CDT
aye, I think you are correct in that, DeSoto
snowrose{JTr}'s pleasure 20:01:50 pm CDT
girl has been to Pompei and apparently sex was a big part of some of the homes..some of the statuary was...well, her Mom kept putting her hand over snow's eyes
dena{GS} 20:01:52 pm CDT
never thought about that Master DeSoto.
OriginalSandman_Builder/Captain of GS 20:02:16 pm CDT
smiling to zoya,, Pompei was the city that was covered by the volcano
natira{GS} 20:02:42 pm CDT
~giggles hearing snowrose~
dena{GS} 20:02:53 pm CDT
oh snowrose, that must have been very interesting...perhaps more fun if you had been older. *wink*
DeSoto 20:03:16 pm CDT
it evolved from then and became more but If I remember correctly Norman said as much once
snowrose{JTr}'s pleasure 20:03:54 pm CDT
she took pictures...~laughs~
dena{GS} 20:04:04 pm CDT
zoya, very disturbing in a way...later they filled open cavities in the lava to find people frozen in their last minutes of time.
Laroona 20:04:18 pm CDT
LOL us females are badddddddd
seriously Norman had a thing against the feminist movement but I do not think that was his sole reason for his books.. more to do with getting published to gain academic acclaim, is how I see one reason for his work
It has also been said he was going through a messy divorce at the same time, I am not certain of this but did read it recently
Dak 20:04:28 pm CDT
it seems I read that as well, somewhere
Dak 20:05:41 pm CDT
could this messy divorce have had something to do with the feminist movement ?
Laroona 20:06:11 pm CDT
I believe the people caught in the eruption were in many compromising positions in th hope they would be spared
dena{GS} 20:07:16 pm CDT
the most upsetting one is a mother in the street with her infant child cradled under her body. just tugged at dena's heart.
Lady Lita 20:07:23 pm CDT
It is my understanding that Norman wrote the first book on a kind of bet, to see if he could get something published. And he was a professor of Philosophy, which is reflected often in his books. They also show a lot of his "academic" writing style, which was kind of boring at times! *LOL*
Laroona 20:07:30 pm CDT
I doubt it Dak maybe it affected his views as it does skew many peoples minds and ideals who go through divorce as it is not an uncommon event
Laroona 20:08:35 pm CDT
Lita I agreee as an academic I found his work boring and thought if I ever write I sure as heck would not folow his style LOL
DeSoto 20:08:38 pm CDT
more than boring at times lol, and had some cheesy sci fi as well but he did write the relationships and beliefs very well
nasreen{TH}t 20:08:52 pm CDT
back when Norman was writing these books divorce was not as common as it is today..
dena{GS} 20:09:17 pm CDT
Mistress Lita, dena has often said that Norman's books need Clift's Notes versions. *giggles*
Dak 20:09:26 pm CDT
I think the feminist movement has had a major impact on ther divorce rate in this society, *smiles*
Laroona 20:09:38 pm CDT
DeSoto a good point as he flucuated from ancient to modern times often
natira{GS} 20:09:46 pm CDT
~giggles~
marsh{GS} 20:09:55 pm CDT
well he's no Emily Bronte but he's not too boring either
Dak 20:10:28 pm CDT
that's true, nasreen, but the ERA had just been passed at that time
marsh{GS} 20:10:47 pm CDT
and he's hardly academic
DeSoto 20:11:02 pm CDT
Emily wasnt so easy to read either
marsh{GS} 20:11:31 pm CDT
ohhhhh Emily rocks!
DeSoto 20:12:12 pm CDT
for a girl lol
Laroona 20:12:34 pm CDT
Many females were about and over the feminist movement as females became educated they began to view many aspects of life different than their predecessors IMO
remember there were such things as forced and arranged marriages, and still are in some societies.
marsh{GS} 20:13:00 pm CDT
nooooooo for anyone she can write the pants off anyone!
Laroona 20:13:14 pm CDT
LOL marsh I am not going there LOL
marsh{GS} 20:13:52 pm CDT
lol
DeSoto 20:14:46 pm CDT
Thats a good point Laroona
dena{GS} 20:15:48 pm CDT
dena longs to go back to the days where women stayed home...she really hates dragging off to work everyday. *g*
Lady Lita 20:16:02 pm CDT
well, marsh, the point was when he was writing the books, he was trying to get AWAY from the normal, academic style, and write fiction. However, he often did fall back into it, and you'd read until you were about ready to give up, and all of a sudden there would be passages of truly entertainig, gripping story-telling. He was tryng to write for the "general public", not fellow academics. And he did succeed well enough to start a "cult following" *LOL* But He also worked a lot of philosophy into his books.
Laroona 20:16:13 pm CDT
thanks DeSoto.. *S*
and wish I could spell or train my fingers LOl
Lady Lita 20:18:10 pm CDT
dena, I remember when computers were first invented, and they predicted soon everyone would work from home, on their computers. I would love that kind of job, but it hasn't happened yet, though lots of folks do perform at least some of their work duties from home, or wherever else they happen to be
nasreen{TH}t 20:19:21 pm CDT
this girl works from home sometimes...remotes into the office...does the calls and prints the work orders out at the office not her home..
dena{GS} 20:19:38 pm CDT
yeah, well dena is sure her clients would be unhappy if she worked in her pj's...well maybe the Men wouldn't mind. *lol*
Laroona 20:20:05 pm CDT
dena heee even in the "old" days women worked mundane jobs now we see the light and have higher paid jobs BUT society still keeps their income lower than males in equal positions and equal responsibility
is this a reflection on governments or those who control the job market?
Laroona 20:20:36 pm CDT
LOL dena LOL
just do not use video cam LOL
natira{GS} 20:23:45 pm CDT
~giggles listening~
OriginalSandman_Builder/Captain of GS 20:24:23 pm CDT
smiles
Lady Lita 20:24:45 pm CDT
In part, Laroona,I think it goes back to the days of manual labor. The hardest, most physically strenuous jobs paid the most, up to Management level. And of course management was always men. So, the jobs that women could do paid less as they required less physical strength. You still see lots of job ads in the papers which state you must be able to lift SSS number of pounds to qualify. And while a few women can meet those physical requirements, most cannot.
marsh{GS} 20:25:16 pm CDT
girl gets paid more than some of her male co-workers
Lady Lita 20:25:36 pm CDT
So, the idea of paying women less has continued, even for jobs where physical strength is not a prime requirement.
Lady Lita 20:26:17 pm CDT
You are one of the few, marsh, and are lucky.
Laroona 20:26:27 pm CDT
Lita manual handling and work safety calls for mechanical lifting and there are limits to males and females by law.. or are in Oz anyway LOL
Laroona 20:27:15 pm CDT
marsh you are lucky to have such a job *S*
marsh{GS} 20:27:45 pm CDT
girl doesn't see where women are getting paid less these days of course she hasn't been in every job market but of those she has been everything was based on seniority and experience not on gender
OriginalSandman_Builder/Captain of GS 20:27:57 pm CDT
in some cases it is also the challenge of women leaving the work force during child earing years,, while their male counterparts typically dont have to take time off, giving the men an advantage of several years of advancement
Laroona 20:28:10 pm CDT
indeed Lita.... something I advocte for equality across the board in RT and have for several years...
Laroona 20:29:40 pm CDT
Sandman exactly and then superannuation comes into play and women end up with less super than men if they choose to have families,,,, thus there is a movement ot maintain job security for cetain periods of time to overcome this abnormality
Lady Lita 20:29:43 pm CDT
There are a lot of laws here regarding work safety, Laroona. I don't recall any REQUIRING mechanical lifting, though most factories have a certain amount simply to speed things up. HOwever, retail stores, for example, still require a lot of lifting and loading merchandise onto carts to be moved out to the sales floor, and then lifting off to be placed wherever they are to be displayed. And yes, they are supposed to hire a certain per centage of ffemales, just as they are required to hire a per centage of different races. However, those rules don't always work well.
OriginalSandman_Builder/Captain of GS 20:30:04 pm CDT
smiles,, but we are veering off topic a bit
Laroona 20:31:02 pm CDT
Lita here there is I worked where certain kg was set for both sexes and it is still in practice.. again that is an Oz law and maybe different in other countires *S*
OriginalSandman_Builder/Captain of GS 20:31:03 pm CDT
nodding,, and the family leave act here in the US,, is desgined to allow for women to leave and come back into the same job
Laroona 20:31:24 pm CDT
heee yep geting our feminist sides worked up Sandman LOL
snowrose{JTr}'s pleasure 20:32:03 pm CDT
the library requires that you have to be able to lift 50 lbs...that's a lot for a small person...
natira{GS} 20:32:12 pm CDT
depends on the job unfortunately, girl is going to have to quit in feb, hoping to get her job back when she is able to come back
OriginalSandman_Builder/Captain of GS 20:32:18 pm CDT
it is interesting and stimulating discussion Laroona,, but were were discussing similarities with Gor and Roman society
Laroona 20:32:27 pm CDT
Sandman here we arte still debating the amount of time but there is some in place now but IMO not enough and they also are advocating for males to have maternity leave also *S*
Lady Lita 20:32:36 pm CDT
marsh, it's often a matter of women being given the lower-paying jobs that men won't do. And these days being experienced can work against you often as not,. Many employers prefer hiring less-experienced workers so they can pay them less, feeling that the jobs they offer don't really need much experience. I don't know how many jobs I've applied for only to be told I am "over-qualified". And now that I am older, my age and experience REALLY work against me, laws or not.
dena{GS} 20:32:56 pm CDT
sorry, dena just can't keep her eyes open any longer. good night All.
Laroona 20:33:06 pm CDT
so is Gor any different even in todays society we could ask oursleves?
natira{GS} 20:40:22 pm CDT
~blinks~
OriginalSandman_Builder/Captain of GS 20:40:31 pm CDT
indeed Dak,, life isnt fair
OriginalSandman_Builder/Captain of GS 20:40:40 pm CDT
nor is Gor
DeSoto 20:41:21 pm CDT
so true
natira{GS} 20:41:40 pm CDT
~giggles~ girl learned that a looong time ago about life not being fair, and Gor not being fair well that much is a given to girl ~grins~
Dak 20:41:57 pm CDT
nope, it's not, *smiles*, Sandman
OriginalSandman_Builder/Captain of GS 20:44:46 pm CDT
