ok, IO will open the Forum, I have a topic, same rules keep chit and gretings to whisper, to make it easier for the scribe first topic,

Free Women and slaves: attitudes, behaviors and online-isms.

Quotes For This Week

"But, why, Master?" she asked.

"Because you are no longer a free woman," I said.

"Because you are now a slave."

"I do not understand," she whispered.

"Because you are now a thousand times more female than before," I said.

"Master?" she said.

"Because you are now a slave," I said.

"Have pity on me!" she wept. (Swordsmen of Gor - Page 267)

"A free woman!" suddenly exclaimed Glyco, startled.

I smiled.

>From the kitchen there had emerged, in the robes of concealment, the figure of a woman.

The men, save I, rose as one to their feet, for Gorean men commonly stand when a free woman enters a room. The voluptuous slave of Aemilianus swiftly knelt, making herself as small as possible, putting her head to the floor. The little dark-haired slave, too, swiftly knelt, also putting her head to the floor. Too, she shuddered, trying to cover her nakedness with her hands. Peggy and Florence, too, now had their heads to the floor. Slave girls, as I may have mentioned, fear free women, terribly.

(Guardsman of Gor - Page 255)

It is an independent question, of course, as to whether or not the slave is inferior, or worthless, and such.

There is obviously a sense in which the slave is inferior. She is, after all, a slave.

Chasms separate her from the free woman, and so on. On the other hand, as we have suggested, far from feeling inferior, the slave is likely to feel, as a woman, far superior to her free sister.

(Swordsmen of Gor - Page 411)

"I was thinking of when I was a free woman," she said. "How contemptuous I was of the slave girls in the cities, how I scorned them, and despised them, so helpless in their lowly, silken slaveries, and yet, now, how I envy them their slaveries!"

"What lucky, soft little things they are," she said, "being sold naked off sales blocks to the whips and chains of strong masters, with little more to worry about than the heat of the kitchens, the steaming water of the laundering tubs, the dangers, from young, prowling ruffians, of shopping in the evening! How warm and safe they are locked in their kennels at night or cuddling, in furs, chained at the foot of their masters' couches! What need have they to fear sleen and tarns! They need fear only their masters!"

(Blood Brothers of Gor - Page 333)

"I am a free woman," she said. "Do you find slaves more interesting than I?"

"Of course," I said.

"Why?" she asked.

"For one thing," I said, "they are owned."

"That makes them fascinating, doesn't it?" she said, bitterly.

"Yes," I said.

"And doubtless," she said, angrily, "they do not have the inhibitions and frigidities of their free sisters!"

"They are not permitted them," I admitted.

"I hate female slaves," she said.

I shrugged.

"Why are they preferred over free women?" she asked.

"Because they are slaves," I said.

"What are the differences?" she asked.

"There are thousands," I said. "Perhaps, most simply, the female slave is submitted to men. This makes her the most total of women."

"Disgusting," she said.

"Perhaps," I said.

Questions

1) Free Woman: How do you feel your rp attitude toward slaves is influenced by the Men you rp with as well?

Free Men: In what ways do you feel you influence a Free Woman?s rp with slaves?

Slaves: How is your rp attitude toward Free Women influenced by Men?

2) Is it possible to rp the fear, the scorn, the disgust, and the haughtiness that slave and Free Woman have for each other?

3) In the books, Men have a tendency to stay out of the actions between Free Women and slaves, even if they own the slave or are companioned to the Free Woman. In your rp, do Men stay out of these interactions; why or why not?

Free Men: In what ways do you feel you influence a Free Woman?s rp with slaves?

Dak 19:47:07 pm CST

any thoughts on the topic?

Dak 19:48:45 pm CST

I think the reason feel less compelled to interfere between, a FW and a slave, they see them as one a slave in waiting, and the other as a slave

Ramses 19:48:03 pm CST

I make no effort to influence FW ...

Ramses 19:49:16 pm CST

and make no effort to intervene in their interactions with slaves

Dak 19:49:20 pm CST

Masters feel less compelled

OriginalSandman_Builder/ Sr. Captain of GS 19:51:28 pm CST

I do not recall having to get involved with influencing rp between FW and slaves

Lita, Physician 19:53:13 pm CST

As a Free Woman, I feel I am not as harsh with slaves as the Free Women in the books were. This is not because I fear angering the Free Men, but because many slaves have not really read these get their feelings hurt r/t.

By the books, Free Men kind of ignored issues between Free Women and slaves, leaving the Free Women to sort it out.

Also, the restrictions in GS regarding punishing slaves kind of hampers the role-play by the books.

Someone said on another topic that ,opst slaves want to role-play the love slave, and don't do much else. That was not how it was in the books. By the books there were very few love slaves, and their owners worked them harder than the other slaves so as mot to appear weak.

Dak 19:56:02 pm CST

aye, but those that were deeply in love with their Masters accepted that as being the reason they worked them harder and were stricter with them

Ramses 19:56:30 pm CST

RT feelings Do get involved here

Lita, Physician 20:01:52 pm CST

That is very true Dak, it is just that many women who role-play slaves haven't read the books well, and do not understand that, and if they are treated harshly, punished, or worked overly hard, their feelings get hurt.

Dak 20:02:55 pm CST

aye, probably so, *smiles*

Lita, Physician 20:03:04 pm CST

Is it possible to rp the fear, the scorn, the disgust, and the haughtiness that slave and Free Woman have for each other?

snowrose{JTr}~GS~fg 20:03:37 pm CST

snowrose doesn't feel any hostility or antagonism toward the Mistress...She can be stern, even harsh at times, but is never hateful, always fair

thalina{GS} 20:04:45 pm CST

thalina thinks slaves can be fearful of Mistresses.... very little has she seen of this tho

atiya{GS} 20:05:57 pm CST

atiya thinks it can be rp'd Mistress Lita

Lita, Physician 20:06:53 pm CST

Thank you, snow. And I don't think slaves would have been ALLOWED to openly express ay scorn, disgust or haughtiness towards Free Women. Fear yes, respect yes, etc.

snowrose{JTr}~GS~fg 20:07:18 pm CST

of course she might feel differently if a Mistress with a different personality were to live here...but slave is slave....her teeth might get ground down though

OriginalSandman_Builder/ Sr. Captain of GS 20:10:01 pm CST growls

Lita, Physician 20:11:06 pm CST

Some Women feel it is difficult to roel-play a Free Woman as there is nothing much to do. An other Free Woman of mY ACQUAINTANCE HAD AN ANSWER FOR THAT:

I was a Free Woman for nearly 3 years. I found plenty to do. You can own an Inn, Livestock, become a Merchant and travel. You can learn to hunt, to be an expert shot with Bow and arrow, go fishing or shop to Your hearts content. You can set up home, collect valued slaves, train them and work hard. Keep watchful of that fine line between Men desiring to enslave You, while You continue on with Your life of 'freedom'. There is much that You can contribute to and be an asset of. The possibilities are endless.

I know I do my best to portray My Caste and work here, as much as is possible in the Tavern. I do need to work on doing more.

Lita, Physician 20:13:40 pm CST

Dak, I guess we will have to move on to other topics, if You have some. *chuckle* One way to shut a Free Woman up, though I don't think it's fair! *LOL* Of course, Gor isn't fair...

Dak 20:15:29 pm CST

well, atthe moment I don't have another topic, *smiles*

Dak 20:16:05 pm CST

does anyone have a topic ?

OriginalSandman_Builder/ Sr. Captain of GS 20:21:14 pm CST

to your earlier commenst I find it is necessary to keep a balance,, and remember vt names on a screen have rt feelings ,, yet at the same time,, anyone who comes to Gorean Shores,, came to rp Gorean life,, which is harsh and unfair

Dak 20:22:51 pm CST

it has just been brought to My attention, there will be no meetings from Dec 20th until after the new year , it will be posted on the corks a little later

flicka-slave of Keeper 20:22:58 pm CST

~listening to the wisdom of The Captain's words and nodding~

OriginalSandman_Builder/ Sr. Captain of GS 20:25:10 pm CST

and at least 3 times I have had to whip slaves that i like personally,, but had my duty,, to perform and did so

Dak 20:27:05 pm CST

new topic

Why is it that there aren't many chat sites that are based on the North, dessert or Wagon People?

OriginalSandman_Builder/ Sr. Captain of GS 20:27:42 pm CST

listening to Dak as he introduces a new topic

snowrose{JTr}~GS~fg 20:27:44 pm CST

snow is happy that she lives in a home where slave are made to know their place Master

Lita, Physician 20:27:54 pm CST

Yes, i HAVE SEEN THAT. aND IN TRUE gOREAN fASHION You do put duty before pleasure.

Lita, Physician 20:28:33 pm CST

I believe there are a few of each over on JAG

OriginalSandman_Builder/ Sr. Captain of GS 20:28:34 pm CST

the one or two sites i have been to other than here didnt rp those aspects of Gor.. of course we do see folks here who rp the North

Bretval, Merchant 20:31:44 pm CST

Too specific... no looseness

snowrose{JTr}~GS~fg 20:32:50 pm CST

and travelers are suspect, so no diversity

Lita, Physician 20:32:51 pm CST

May I ask what or where is too specific, Bretval?

Lita, Physician 20:33:46 pm CST

But travelers being suspect is VERY Gorean, snow. Remember, in Gorean the word for stranger is the same as the word for enemy.

hulya{GS} 20:34:22 pm CST

What is that word Mistress?

flicka-slave of Keeper 20:34:26 pm CST

There used to be quite a few Northern Lodges and Halls, but like many Gorean Sites they fell by the wayside.

thalina{GS} 20:35:01 pm CST

there is one Northern home that has been around for more then 8 years... Owned by the same Jarl

Lita, Physician 20:35:14 pm CST

*laughs* hulya, the author, being a wise man, does not give the specific word in Gorean, just states that they are the same.

snowrose{JTr}~GS~fg 20:35:23 pm CST

yes but in the big cities there are people from all over Gor...and Port Kar...the tribes don't seem to interact much even among themselves, other than fighting

hulya{GS} 20:35:45 pm CST

*giggles* yes Mistress

Bretval, Merchant 20:37:38 pm CST

A place with a distinct weather like a desert or far North has clothing dectated by the temperature... middle areas are not restricted as much...

snowrose{JTr}~GS~fg 20:42:31 pm CST

girl must admit she would love to visit her Master's homeland someday

Dak 20:45:05 pm CST

rt, or vt? snow?

snowrose{JTr}~GS~fg 20:46:35 pm CST

well both Master...she wants to go to the snow hotel they build anew in Sweden each year...maybe for a honeymoon, way later

Dak 20:47:00 pm CST

ok, *smiles*

Lita, Physician 20:47:25 pm CST

hulya, here is a comment by Ubar Luther regarding the "stranger=enemy" theory:"

It is well known that on Gor, the word for "stranger" is the same as for "enemy." But why it this so?

The answer may be in part because it is a natural principle. Harvard's E.O. Wilson, one of the original pioneers of sociobiology, states that xenophobia, a fear of strangers, is natural and universal among all of the higher animals. The higher animals are often quick to expel strangers to their worlds. All human cultures and societies develop ways to differentiate themselves from strangers that enter their culture or society. We can see it in our everyday life as well, how people are often hesitant in the presence of a stranger. Strangers are not immediately embraced. There are worries over whether that person is an enemy or not. Thus, the Gorean concept that the stranger is an enemy is considered part of the natural order.

hulya{GS} 20:48:09 pm CST

*giggles* sounds like fun mistress

hulya{GS} 20:48:52 pm CST

Yes Mistress thank you

snowrose{JTr}~GS~fg 20:49:16 pm CST

she goes to the website every year to see it

Bretval, Merchant 20:49:32 pm CST

I spent too many years in Winnipeg, snow... ice hotels have no interest for Me *g*

thalina{GS} 20:50:29 pm CST

~giggles~ have You seen one made Jarl? it is interesting.

snowrose{JTr}~GS~fg 20:51:20 pm CST

~laughs~ we'll make our own heat...it's actually fairly comfortable just a night or two

Dak 20:52:49 pm CST

well, if there's nothing more, looking at the water clock, I will call the Forum to a close, and thank all for coming and for participating , *smiles*

snowrose{JTr}~GS~fg 20:53:54 pm CST

girl thanks You for leading the forum Master Dak

OriginalSandman_Builder/ Sr. Captain of GS 20:54:16 pm CST
