Captain Shadowglade

Alright folks, the subject of traveling, and spending one's time in a place other than GS, has been brought up, and I think this is a good topic to begin on, as I personally feel very strongly about this Myself. I did last week restrict all GS owned slaves from traveling, but of course THAT does no good if none of our Free are spending time in the tavern....So before you all start on this topic, please let me state that *I* personally am not interested in hearing WHY people don't stay home, but rather, and more importantly WHY people would rather be elsewhere on Gor than their own home.

Kayla

I personally too have a problem with the the amount of traveling that is going on. Don't get Me wrong I visit other sites.. but I still spend most of My time here in GS and limit My visits because I personally feels it hurts GS

shi'rin{Thorfinn}

shirin never travels, so that leaves her out, she's trying to improve her time here as well

Deirdre

*softly* People do not come to GS because it doesn't feel alive anymore. It has become staid.....and boring......and before I get skewered for being honest, let Me just say.......well........You asked.

Laroona

Having noticed for a while as I do contemplate returning to Gor, (part time basis) I have been observing and notice many travel to other sites and yet do not even enter GS. I have difficulty in understanding why go elsewhere, as it is well proven if a Free Male enters, slaves follow fast...

Kayla

Indeed Deirdre.. asked and answered.. But if all those people traveling in other places where here then would not GS be the site full of life and role-play?... How can We fix the problem of an empty Tavern in GS if we are in Poolside or Jag or anywhere else... Everyone has to their part...

Captain Shadowglade

It DOES hurt GS.....in multiple ways. One way that it hurts us, is that it robs us of our patronage. What good is an empty tavern folks? That's not a tavern, it's a storage room. Then it also tends to make us look very stupid to the rest of Gor...when our OWN pledged patrons and slaves would RATHER be anywhere else on Gor.

Im going to say it loudly, and very clearly: In my opinion if you have pledged yourself to GS then BE in GS, if you are owned by one who has pledged to GS, then BE in GS, even if your Master/Mistress doesn't have the time, or good grace to do so. (unless of course you are a privately owned slave, and your Master has ordered you to stay out of GS, then, you are excused from this conversation...though IMO your Master/Mistress isn't)

Deirdre

Many People have done Their part, Kayla........at different times when Others stayed away.

Laroona

Deirdre .. stale? is it because GS does not permit switching, people playing animals, duel role-playing like many other sites, maybe that is the answer?

The Skullsplitter

~chuckles~ I would rather live in an empty site than one that betrays the morals of Gor, Laroona

kanda{N}

maybe kanda can suggest something?

Laroona

Further adding ... Pledging to a Home stone in my opinion is to be where the Home stone is located

Laroona

*chuckles* aye indeed Thorfinn (though it is good for a laugh at time to observe)

eternal fyre{K}

this one kinda likes the fact that dualars are not allowed... but she wouldn't mind seeing an animal of Gor so long as its not over played like the panther and her cubs... that's just too complex *giggle* maybe if We got some NPCs

Deirdre

*standing and moving to the door*

Shadowglade.......I appreciate Your sentiments........but I think You need to reflect on what You have just stated.......and remember Your own history with this site. You have been proclaimed Captain after not having graced the tavern with Your presence for months and months. I think We need to stop pointing fingers......when We all are aware of what the problems are.......and just try and deal with what We have.

kanda{N}

kanda wonders if people are not going because of the speed of reposting...we are all used to it..but some people would prefer faster responses

Deirdre

I am sick to death of platitudes.......and piousity.......and cliques.......and politics. There was a time when role-play was encouraged here.....when more happened in this tavern than just coming in and vegetating.....

kanda{N}

kanda likes the idea very much that duelers are not permitted

eternal fyre{K}

personally this one thinks it would better things also if the past posts would stay longer that way Ozone could see what has been going on and maybe tag into the SL

Laroona

was the move from poolside a retrograde step? I think so as it was one of the reasons GS grew

Captain Shadowglade

I do not argue that Deirdre, however, since I have been made Captain again, even after I've stated I wasn't certain I could commit, I've spent more time in this tavern than many who, like yourself, would presume to remind me of what is known by anyone who's known me. Im doing my part, and Im trying to rally others to do so as well...would it be better, in your opinion if I adopted the same attitude that seems prevalent? That of "if others won't do it why the hell should I?" That's rather sad in my opinion, but all too common it seems.

Deirdre

Laroona? Dualing in any form is wrong. I've never been any role other than Deirdre in Gor. What are You suggesting to Me?

kanda{N}

kanda knows that he ran dher Master don't come in often but Master like shaving His slave to Himself

Laroona

I am not suggesting you or any here dual Deirdre ..it is just my observations of other sites

kanda{N}

oops..He doesn't like shaving..He likes having she means

Laroona

if any here played the role of an animal it could be construes ad dualing (legally)

eternal fyre{K}

if it was the same person behind the screen this one believes so yes

Deirdre

Laroona......Be very careful when You throw something like that out, Lady. GS has tried very hard to vanquish dueling........and has been fairly successful. I, for One, have never seen any site knowingly countenance (sp) a known dueler. It seems to Me that once it's proven beyond a showdown that the party involved is banished......just as they are here.

eternal fyre{K}

but to her personal opinion if You have an animal near you such as a tarn or something that accompanies You then its ok

Laroona

but if I or anyone entered as an animal it would still be wrong as how do animals enter taverns, lets be realistic in our role-play

Deirdre

Animal??? What? *looking incredulous* Have there been animals here? When? This is.....*shaking My head*

Captain Shadowglade

However *steel blue eyes flashing as he looks between the FW* Dualing is not what we're discussing, Ladies. We're discussing traveling, rather than spending one's time at home.

Deirdre, you put insinuate that you do not come into GS because you feel it is rife with cliques, politics and vegetating, is that right?

Kayla

I care nothing for role-playing NPCs or dualing.. have enough time being Me *ss*

And Dei maybe it has been stale when You have been here of late but what have you done to change it?.. what role-play have you tried to begin?... what storyline?.. or are You waiting for someone else to do the work so You can join in?... Is that what most of Us are doing?... waiting on someone else always?... when is it about Me and not about You?

kanda{N}

*scratches head and wonders about how animals came into conversation*

Laroona

Deidre I am stating what I know is fact! NOT anything in GS that I have known.... It happens in other sites

Deirdre

*nodding to the Captain* Aye Sir.......that is My opinion. That is correct. I have never said that to Anyone else.......but that is exactly what I feel.

Laroona

*chuckles* it came up from examples given, what occurs in other sites that GS does not tolerate

Laroona

I have been but 2 persona in Gor... I see no value in being dishonest with those I respect and myself IF I could return, after my time out of Gor, I would be in GS with a storyline like a flash...

Deirdre

*looking at Kayla.......openly and sincerely* I will leave, Kayla. This is forum. I was under the impression that the questions that were being asked were actually being asked to be answered. You can stand in judgment of Me all You wish.....Your opinion has ceased to mean to Me what it once did. I have tried to begin things in the past.....You know......to role-play......because that is what Gor is......a role-play......and I have been verbally slapped down by the same People who have slapped You down in the past. But You have seemed to have forgotten about that.

I won't be attacked......not here in forum........not in the site that I claim as My home stone.

Laroona

Deirdre I believe the question was posed to all persons to see if improvements could be made, no one attacked any *S*

Deirdre

*moving to the green door........back ramrod straight.......*

Captain Shadowglade

*glancing to Kayla* Lady, be calm...your opinion is welcome, but let's not make this into a war of words...we're discussing, there's no need to make it into a battle.

Deirdre, your opinion is also respected, and welcome. However, if that is your opinion of your home, what is it then, that causes you to return? Im trying to understand the thought processes here. I have shared that opinion with you at one time Lady, so you know, and at that time I chose to leave GS, and try to make my home elsewhere. It was not the same, GS is, and always has been GS, and home....things change, people come and go, but GS is solid, and comforting, in that it's changes are subtle and easily missed if you're not present to watch them happen, or to contribute in bringing them about. When MAJOR changes that are not so subtle happen, at least to me, it is the same as raping something that is sacred to me. One should not simply walk into one's home one day, and burn it down simply because maybe the floors creak or the door sticks.... GS is slow, yes, stale perhaps to those who do not love it enough to wait and see how it evolve, or even work, diligently towards helping it to do so. But one will never know how great it can be if one turns their backs upon it.

Kayla

Ohh well the only attack Dei I saw was the one I saw was Yours toward the Captain... I posed the question to all of are we waiting for someone else to start the role-play... getting sensitive does not help GS nor does leaving in a snit

kanda{N}

GS was great...why can't it be again?

The Skullsplitter

Alright, basically, the reason why other sites seem to flourish is the "options" available. Most people prefer other forms of chat, where you can keep track of history, you can log in a few days later and catch up. Most sites like JAG, webmaze, Alterrealm, etc, flourish because they have hundreds of rooms so everyone can be a Leader/Ubar, whatever - they all look busy because they all interact together, but in reality terms, they are a bunch of rooms with only 2 or 3 members hanging out with other groups.

There is also the modern perception of Gor, it has become more like Dungeons and Dragons to people, they can get away with 5 or 6 names because to others they feel it makes it look like they have hundreds of members and that attracts new members thinking they will have constant interaction, so in some sites, like JAG, where you have 150 members, you actually only have maybe 40 or 50.

The "Principles" of Online Gor changed a very long time ago and it was perception and "choices" that made this change. The CHOICE to play who you want because it is your account and money, the CHOICE to create your own room even if it means no other members, just because it can give you a title. The CHOICE, to ignore the principles of Gor, because this is only online, etc. etc. etc.

Very few people care anymore and as New Gor appears, old Goreans fade, and there is nothing anyone can do about it because it is change, and in 5 years time, it will be 10 times worse than it is right now.

Laroona

*nodding to Shadowglade* I recall those times my old friend, and you returned to what you knew was in your hear your true homes that is GS. I on the other hand traveled a different journey, the came to a stop... *S*

shi'rin{Thorfinn}

~*~listening to her Jarl~*~ that sounds pretty grim, Jarl, do we throw up our hands now and save the energy?

Captain Shadowglade

*glancing to shirin* it seems as though many already have girl.

Kayla

~Liking shirin's question and listening for an answer~

The Skullsplitter

At the end of the day, the majority of the people we have HERE, at GS, are a strong group, IF we stick together. The lures of other sites can be strong for the purpose of interaction, but if everyone interacts here, GS can be just as busy. And there is nothing wrong with going traveling, so long as the main purpose remains to attract the attention to GS. There have been a lot of visitors to GS because of friendships made in other sites.

But again, perhaps it is the fact that this is a Tavern, the choices are limited, you eat, you drink, you chat.

shi'rin{Thorfinn}

then why fight to bring back those that don't wish to be here? can we, a collective group of GS lovers, truly make anyone come here if *they* don't want to?

Laroona

I recall days when we had many here, who drifted down from the pool... and the roles played... free hurt in spars as some I recall, kanda you I am sure, can recall much too as you been here for a long time *S*

eternal fyre{K}

capture, tie down.. no it should be by chouse... We should work at making Them choose to come home. This girl comes because she loves her Mistress and the People of GS... maybe something can be done to re-kindle that flame in others

eternal fyre{K}

*giggle* thought this girl likes being captured and tied down that's a different subject *blush and giggle*

The Skullsplitter

Screw the ones that don't want to be here, it is those people that bring GS down, what you want to do is attract people in, and really, the only way now to do that is by visiting - especially now that poolside is no longer linked.

Example: Recently, I made a room on Paltalk (Mainly so I can play Music) and in the one day I used it, I met about 6 or 7 people who "liked" My perception of Gor but as the format is completely different to theirs, it will take time to persuade them to visit. So traveling has its benefits in that form and that alone. Only we as Goreans can attract people to want to come here, how we act, how we behave, how we interact, how we perceive Gor, is how people view us, and like I said, the ones that don't want to be here, bring us down in that way. We have recently had a few new pledges, which shows, that we as Goreans, DO still attract people in our perception of Gor, even though we all have different views, the final ideal is the same - we all want Gor - not a joke, not a party place, not a fuckhouse, not a game.

Laroona

a suggestion::: if you have a core, build on those, and recruit those who want to drift let them drift and cast them aside value is in the true stayers

shi'rin{Thorfinn}

adding..shirin does think being cut off from Poolside is a bad thing. when shirin found GS she had no idea what Gor was and surely never would have gone looking for it, how could she, but found it thru Poolside.

Laroona

maybe approach GaryM to relocate back .... it is easy to make a meeting room in that site

Kayla

I agree shirin.. and the link was replaced but to the wrong GS... LOL.. But with Gary's current loss of a family member it may be a while before We get it back...

Captain Shadowglade

No, girl we can't make anyone stay anywhere they don't want to be, though some of us would love to see that happen. Myself among them, but that is because I have a wicked temper, and when Im pissed off find myself taking it out on others.

The fact is, however, we need people here, and there are some faces I see in this room tonight, that I only -ever- see in this room every week, and frankly to me, that's very disheartening. I know that when I've served on the Council in the past that has been a prevailing feeling amongst us Captains. I've found myself in the past, and again rather recently, "Why the hell do I bother even just a little bit? Everyone's waiting for ME to do it, everyone see's the title Captain and decides it's my job to fix everything" and yes, that sometimes makes me angry. But then I have to remind myself....or in some cases BE reminded that I have no right to bitch about how difficult it is to try and lead my home, and to serve as what I feel is a good example of how we should be, as I KNEW coming into it this time, that that would happen....

So, here I am, asking now, for anyone who calls GS home to stand up, and help Thorfinn and I out...don't look to us expecting US to fix it for you, come in, lend a hand, spend some time in GS, and see how much easier, and better it is when everyone does so.

shi'rin{Thorfinn}

~nods with Jarl and Mistress Laroona, feeling the same way, let them go~

kanda{N}

shirin..that's exactly how kanda found Gor..she drifted in about 6 yrs ago and keeps returning..there is something good about this plaice..and not only kanda feels it..many others feel it is home too

shi'rin{Thorfinn}

aye Mistress Kayla, then we will be patient with Master GaryM

Laroona

I am grateful, thanks to the grace of the Captains, I am permitted here to speak my mind as I have GS at heart....

I am going to ponder and consider my move to apply for return ...

Laroona

I found GS through poolside

eternal fyre{K}

as did this girl

The Skullsplitter

Now, back the the whole "travel" thing which was the original point of this, not the how do we save Gor Campaign ~chuckles~ What are we saying? As far as I can see, everyone here as SG has said, are the ones who are here the most, so maybe a post will be best said to the rest to ensure everyone can see. I personally do not have a problem with people traveling, but too much is the problem.

Captain Shadowglade

*smirks* I found GS via Poolside, and a certain slave who is hiding out of late.

shi'rin{Thorfinn}

not to be disrespectful or belittle the Captains or lift the slaves up, but really, we are equal in the fact that it takes each and everyone of us, to help GS, not just our Captains, not just a Master, not just a Mistress, not just a slave, but all of us, together.

Laroona

Thorfinn.. when I see those of GS in other sites and never in GS then I have a real problem regarding their loyalty.... yes it is their $ to spend *S*

Kayla

I agree shirin.. it takes all of us...

Laroona

well said shi'rin *smiles*

Captain Shadowglade *chuckles* Thorfinn, you weren't here the last few times it's happened, but I know in the past when GS went through nearly the exact same problem it's having now, a quick post by one on the Council asking for re-pledges from those who would be counted has served at least to help spark an interest. I know Xern once did that, as did Marius when he was First Sword.... I think my former glory in this place has faded to near obscurity...it used to be that when I spoke even as a Patron people listened, but too often of late I feel like Im speaking into the wind....perhaps YOU should post such a thing and see if it helps. *chuckling*

The Skullsplitter

I am not going to lie. I have a Home in Hyperchat, and it consists of a few Men, but the purpose of that home is again to try bring people to GS. I have a slut now, her name is sticky buns, who serves there daily, and eventually, any regulars can be brought over that way. Axel is an example of that, he used to converse with calli over at JAG a lot, then come over and visit her here. But again, I hardly ever spend time there unless it is to deal with things, and I sit in GS as much as possible, even when I am not at the pc.

shi'rin{Thorfinn}

once in a great while shirin would go to the pool and *recruit* Masters, but once they find out she is owned, they never come to visit, even after she tells them there are other slaves ~shrugs~

Laroona

Thorfinn you are in GS more than there..from my peeking LOL

The Skullsplitter

Alright, I will reread the forum when it is mailed and write something

Laroona

kanda I am sure you recall the times we used to go "Master hunting" in poolside heeeeee

Kayla

smiles... I even have used the Hall to continue a current role-play .. even when Thorfinn was not there... LOL

kanda{N}

aye Mistress..we sure did and had fun doing it.. but then we had lots of fun no matter what we did...

Laroona

chuckles aye kanda if these walls could talk LOL

kanda{N}

Mistress if these walls could talk we would have no trouble with filling this tavern..*chuckles*

Laroona

kanda aye little one.. best kept secrets are written there LOL

Captain Shadowglade

alright, well, then let me suggest a topic of my own. In GS, what things can we list about it, that are things we're proud of? What would you say are GS's strengths?

jale{GS}

*pipes up* One big loving family! A group of people that care about each other and watch out for each other in GS and out as well. this girl thinks GS should be proud of it's Inhabitants. *smiles*

eternal fyre{K}

*grin* its good looking slaves? *giggle trying to make a funny kinda*

shi'rin{Thorfinn}

the best slaves on Gor ~smiles, wiggling~ that we attempt to stay true to the books

The Skullsplitter

My Ax

~grunts with a chuckle~

Takuk

The easy chat interface, I'd say is a strength.

Kayla

in so many sites online has become a joke of Gor.. I like that GS sticks to its rules of once a slave and no dualing and how close is tried as a whole to stay to the books..

I also like that we have as many members as we do.. even with our troubles we seem to keep the numbers.. though they don't show up much ~grins~

The Skullsplitter

Aye, the values of GS are a strength indeed.

kanda{N}

kanda thinks that one of GS's strengths is that the tavern is always made to feel like coming home when You step thru the doors... what ever problems You have with r/t kinda fizzle off when You are in here.. so many times kanda has wished that there was a real time tavern..where she could escape to..where she felt welcome..where she was never judged..just like the one here online at GS

The Skullsplitter

I also believe, that when all the Men are present, that the core group think and act like Goreans, and that to Me is something that originally attracted Me to GS. I cannot stand ignorance, and laziness when it comes to peoples perceptions. And the ones who are new to Gor, prove themselves over time as they grow and I enjoy helping, when I can.

Captain Shadowglade

*snorts at the other Captain and shakes his head* That and the slaves go without saying I think Brother. Here's what I would list: Our History, Our Honor, Our record (but for a short period I'd rather not get into discussing) of being consistent with our values, Our core group of slaves, and patrons, and as stated by Thorfinn to me not too long ago, the Honor, and Aye, Greatness of not only our Senior Captain, but the others who founded this place, and gave it to us, making it into what it is, and helping some of US to learn how to make it into what it CAN and WILL be.

Takuk

I've been to very few chat sites, but what I have noticed about GS is that everyone is so willing to help newcomers.

kanda{N}

*muses softly, wondering if she ever won r/t ;lottery if it would be possible to re-create this room*

shi'rin{Thorfinn}

it is a comfort kanda ~smiles~ to shirin as well

jale{GS}

jale also agrees with the mention of People helping the Others, and newcomers...jale knows it when she first came to Gor...and learned so much from her sisters, and from the Free.

eternal fyre{K}

*nodding* this girl never read the books but everything she learned she learned from sisters, Masters, Mistresses all kinds of info, while she isn't the best slave in Gor she considers herself pretty damn good for one who never read the books

Captain Shadowglade

So how do we all feel about going out here and there to try and find more newcomers to join us? Perhaps another event is needed already?

kanda{N}

kanda has read the first 15 books and she must say that GS has never let her down..even after reading the books (which she did last year) it made her enjoy this home so much more..true she can't interact in the books but she can do that in here..

shi'rin{Thorfinn}

shirin will give it another try Master ~smiles~

The Skullsplitter

I think we need to express things to those of GS and get our own house in order before another event is set.

kanda{N}

could we have GS Olympics?

The Skullsplitter

Too easy kanda, I would win everything

kanda{N}

fun ones she means..just amongst those here?

Kayla

I had sent a request in about a possible drinking contest to the Council email Captain.. was there any decision about that?

The Skullsplitter

Aye, we sat and tried it out. I didn't wake up for 2 days.

Takuk

*chuckles at the Captain* Perhaps in competitions of strength Captain, but there are other skills out there. *grins*

shi'rin{Thorfinn}

~*~chuckles and ribs her Jarl~*~ aye You would Jarl ~grins~

Kayla

Well that is unfair if You had no competition Thorfinn LOL..

Captain Shadowglade

Nay Lady, I saw your email, but no one has commented about it, but it is a good idea, and is something Im interested in discussing with my Brother Captains when we get the chance.

kanda{N}

we could have slave mud wresting outside...we could have vulo bingo.. ummm things fun and unstressful if others seen us having fun..they might be envious

The Skullsplitter

Seriously though, the best way to progress is to simply sit down and write down a lot of idea's and mail them to the Council so we can read it in our own time and comment to each other about it.

Did anyone come up with storyline idea's for example which I asked last week? Since everyone seemed to be interested, I was surprised to see no mails about it from anyone.

kanda{N}

kanda thinks she is very glad that only Masters partake in drinking contests cause she would fail miserably..

kanda{N}

*wonders about the storyline idea thing as she was gone last week and was not able to come*

Captain Shadowglade Well, folks, that's the Forum, get any last comments in, and then that's it. We're done. I thank you all for coming out

eternal fyre{K}

this one thought it would be fun to have Gorean Jeopardy or Gorean Family Feud

eternal fyre{K}

giggle and pretends to point to a board* Show me Tarn!

The Skullsplitter

Well, then again, come up with your idea's and mail them to the Council.
