It is the job of the owners of extract punishment for anything beyond a swat or locking them up... if the owners do nothing the slaves go unpunished

But what about Tavern-owned slaves, Bretval? Too often none of the Captains, or the Slave Master , are present, thus nothing is ever done. And by the books, any Free Person could punish any slave who displeased them at any time, whether her Owner was present or not. If the Free killed the girl in the process, the Free need only pay her Owner the two coppers her dead body was worth. That is book.

it is usually visiting freenecks who don't care to obey the rules..GS slaves usually get called out and punished...such behavior doesn't last long...but there is nothing a fg can do about visitors who just want to hang out and come and go as they please

When a slave asks why they must do something that a Free person tells them to do, is that disobedience? Why or why not? One is tempted to just answer 'Yes it is disobedience'.
However if a slave asked in a polite, respectful manner and is only seeking to improve herself there could be situations where it is not disobedience.
Much would depend on the slave and the Master.
