Tal Patrons of Gorean Shores…
I am unavailable to attend the forum today and asked Phen to deliver this letter for me.
Over the years I have felt that our home lacked something…something that could be known as the focal point of Gorean Shores. Sure, we all pledge to the Council of Captains, although, the Captains we pledge to do not represent the full Council of Captains of Port Kar, rather a small group that has opened a business called the Gorean Shores Tavern. I want to state categorically, here and now, that I am not unhappy with how we do things here, to the contrary. It works well. But a Homestone for our Tavern? Who would like that? Tell me those people that have read Raiders of Gor, who were not moved by the scene of Port Kar finding its Homestone of the 25th Se Kara? I think its one of John Norman’s most exceptional pieces of writing.
I have always thought that somehow we should have a Homestone here. Yet we are set in the time of the Councils rule of the city after the overthrow of the 5 Ubars and before the finding of the Homestone. To upgrade the site and all of its literature to the period of time after the finding of the Homestone would be a major hassle, and I believe not worth it. On the other hand there is no reason why we couldn’t have our own Homestone. In our home we extol the virtues of Honour, Respect and Community…To me these are what a Homestone is all about.
So, brothers, patrons, cup companions and friends, I ask each of you to examine your feelings on this topic…Should Gorean Shores have a Homestone?

another point or reason that GS was founded on the OLD PK way of no homestone was the description much like what Laroona posted.... sen's opinion. It's new, it's uncomfortable for those who are not used to it. The way we are greeting now, that is how sen is used to it.
It's a change..yes and it's going to take more than five days to get used to it, get comfortable with it, it might take more than two hands to get used to it or even comfortable. Personally think you are getting the cluster thing..getting the long time way because the slaves aren't used to it yet.

and then today....it was discussed during slave class that should a Master have a slave upon His lap...that an entering slave move to greet and offer service to Him....thought being that He might require food or drink.....

Because it's new galah and in my personal opinion. GS has greeted a certain way for a long time now and to throw a new one in, it's a change. It's not going to get all the kinks out over night, it's not going to get the kinks out in a couple of day. It needs time and patience with everyone.

Yes, but normally you only see 20 Mistress. sen personally doesn't scroll back to see what was going on, she simply reads back the 20 posts you can see. And usually in those 20 posts you get a feeling of who has been served and what not and the atmosphere.

this one doesn't mean for her statement to make any mad.. and some probably feel she shouldn't even say anything as the greeting doesn't affect her at this time... but...
i understand that things were "done" differently in the books.. but this isn't the books.. this is online.. and some allowances should be made for that... like a personal greeting to each one to make them feel they are at least acknowledged as a breathing person.... i dont see it as shouting across a room at all.. unless going on the age old online assumption that a slave does it in all caps....

i agree, it does have kinks, i was stuck at a very quiet Masters feet that would not answer if he wished served or not...then when another come in, it didn't look good, i tried everything to get an answer...but that is not the fault of a slave thats trying hard to make something new work, it also takes the cooperation of the free

and the issue of girls choosing who they like to serve and not like to serve is an old one.
either way the slaves are still held to the directive of the Captains.......... and the greet order.
now if any slave is begging Masters to walk into rooms to be greeted so they dont have to serve the Mistress's i would like to see who has that kind of information.

if you look at the map of the tavern, the slave furs are quite a distance from the serving tables and furs for the free....so many times in slave class, the slaves want to paint a realistic picture in there head, noticing things like the cold room being out of place and such, except all of a sudden its alright to talk over the top of everyones chit chat?

orli thinks part of the problem is that Free are not used to having to read every post of every slave in the room to see if they are offering serve also
which is why mistress galah and orli both found themselves waiting before a Free for answer to service...orli knelt there for 7 minutes before she was kicked with His boot and told to go to the furs
well....there are no furs to go to...and now orli has been kick for doing what she is told....not a huge confidence booster
and trust a girl who has just come up through the ranks...it is hard enough to be in the Tavern offering serve anyway let alone to be new *thinking of the yellow and white silks~

this way COULD mesh the free and slaves together more, a chance for girls to serve some they wouldn't normally serve, but as i said before, cooperation of the free is going to be needed tooo to help with this, i was hoping that once the initial part of it settled down, then those free in a room, could guide a girl where to go, have seen Mistresses at other sites do that, see a slave walk in and tell her to go serve Master Y.....for if the FW was there awhile, she would know who was served and who wasn't...or even a Master thats just conversing, he would know where all the slaves are and with whom

Also, if there is some question about if or why any FM or FW could not step in and simply inform a newly arrived slave that * Master XYZ or Master PDQ may need service, go to them, girl... * seems reasonable to Me....and yes even a FW telling them so... but as stated before, it should be made clear that ALL FM will be served or offered service FIRST !!! then after they decline or whatever, the slaves may move on to the FW......
